Yarra Valley Writers Festival today announced celebrated Australians, author Helen Garner, playwright David Williamson and musician and writer Clare Bowditch will present at the inaugural event taking place in Healesville, Victoria on Mother’s Day weekend, 8-10 May.
Prolific author and lifelong diarist Helen Garner will discuss her latest release the Yellow Notebook: Diaries Volume 1 1978-1987 which reveals her insightful thoughts on Australia and her writings on the decade just after the publication of her first novel Monkey Grip.
One of Australia’s most significant dramatists, David Williamson, who rose to fame in the 1970s with Don’s Party and The Removalists, will present on the ongoing themes of politics and family in contemporary urban Australia across the weekend.
On Saturday night, the illustrious Clare Bowditch will immerse the audience in her stories of childhood, growing up and becoming a musician through song and engaging narrative based on her bestselling memoir Your Own Kind of Girl.
Programmed by playwright Hannie Rayson (Hotel Sorento, Inheritance), the Yarra Valley Writers Festival will feature local, national and internationally recognised writers, thinkers and speakers.
Taking place in Healesville, Victoria from 2-13 May, the Yarra Valley Writers Festival will feature talks, lunches, workshops and special events, with the main weekend event happening from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 May (Mother’s Day).
