The untold story of the witches of Oz has come to the National Theatre, St Kilda from January 19-27, 2018 – presented by the Young Australian Broadway Chorus.

Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.

Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future.

Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Following on from 2017’s sell-out season of SHREK the Musical Jr. and many other successful shows in the Musicals for Young People series, Wicked will be the Young Australian Broadway Chorus’ most ambitious project to date, with a full orchestra, spectacular sets and costumes, and an extraordinary young cast.

This is the first all-youth production of Wicked in Australia, with the cast age range as 10 – 21 years old. Playing some of the main roles is a 19-year-old for Elphaba (in evening performances), an 18-year-old plays Glinda and The Wizard is 17-years-old. With 114 cast on stage and 20 orchestra members, it’s giving this much-loved show a youthful twist.
