OperaMania has been staged by Valery Raku Resident Stage Director for Moscow Novaya Opera.  Valery Raku said “This program, made up of an uninterrupted series of excerpts carefully chosen to move between comedy, tragedy and lyricism, is performed by singers and dancers in full costume, against a background of colourful lighting and moving images that illustrate the character of the music, and to the accompaniment of the orchestra.  The items are short and flow without pause from one to the next in a fast-moving production that offers a kaleidoscope of many of the best-known and most-loved pieces from opera, ballet and symphonic music and reflects their depth and diversity.”

Valery Raku is renowned in Russia as a director of opera.  He has been chief director of the Tatar Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, artistic director of the Chaliapin International Opera Festival, and the Chaliapin International Contest of Opera Singers.  In 1991, he organized the Wagner International Festival in Kazan.  Valery Raku has staged over forty opera productions in different theatres of Russia, including Novosibirsk, Saratov, Ufa, Volgograd, Izhevsk, Voronezh, Kazan and others.  Many of his productions are still part of the repertoire of those theatres.  Valery Raku joined the Moscow Novaya Opera Theatre in 1994.  His productions for that company include Verdi’s I due Foscari, Catalani’s La Wally, Thomas’s Hamlet and Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden.

Moscow Novaya Opera Orchestra, in addition to playing for Moscow Novaya Opera, appears frequently in concert, playing in the best halls in Russia such as the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and many more.  The Orchestra often performs in concert with Moscow Novaya Opera’s soloists, choir and guest musicians.  They have toured to Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Germany.  Jointly with the Imperial Russian Ballet they toured in Turkey, Finland, Singapore, Thailand and Estonia.

Vasily Valitov will conduct the performances of OperaMania.  Following an international career conducting symphony orchestras and opera, Vasily joined Moscow Novaya Opera in 2010, and since that time he has conducted operas including Offenbach's A Dinner Party with Italians, Prokofiev's The Ugly Duckling, Peter and the Wolf, Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Borodin's Prince Igor, and Rossini's The Barber of Seville.
