The Songs of Ahrens & Flaherty

the first in a series of concerts exhibiting the work

of a variety of acclaimed musical theatre composers.

The Songs of Ahrens & Flaherty showcases the talents of the writing duo behind such celebrated productions as Ragtime, A Man of No Importance, Rocky and Anastasia. The Songs of Ahrens & Flaherty will also feature a song from their brand new show Little Dancer. This will be the first time the song has been performed outside of the recent professional workshop season at the Kennedy Centre in the United States and only the second time the song has ever been performed worldwide.

The Composers
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty won the Tony Award, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and received two Grammy nominations for their score of the Broadway musical Ragtime. In the same year, they garnered two Academy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations for the songs and score of Twentieth Century Fox's animated feature film, Anastasia.

Their theatre credits include Seussical (Grammy nomination, now one of the most frequently-performed shows in America); Once On This Island (eight Tony nominations, London’s Olivier Award for Best Musical); My Favorite Year; A Man of No Importance (Best Musical, 2003 Outer Critics Circle Award); Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life; Ragtime (2009 Broadway revival); Dessa Rose; Lucky Stiff; The Glorious Ones: Rocky (Hamburg and Broadway); and Little Dancer.
Individually, Ms. Ahrens wrote co-book and lyrics for A Christmas Carol, (ten seasons at Madison Square Garden.) She is a mainstay songwriter for ABC-TV’s Schoolhouse Rock; lyrics for the feature films Camp, After the Storm, and the dance play In Your Arms. Screenplay for Lucky Stiff; teleplay for A Christmas Carol. Emmy Award, four Emmy nominations, Lilly Award.

Mr. Flaherty’s concert music has premiered at the Hollywood Bowl, Boston's Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Guggenheim Museum and Symphony Space. Incidental music for Neil Simon's play Proposals; Musical score for Loving Repeating: A Musical Of Gertrude Stein (Chicago’s Jefferson Award for Best New Musical).

Ahrens and Flaherty are Council members of the Dramatists Guild of America, and co-founders of the Dramatists Guild Fellows Program for Emerging Writers. 2013 marked their thirtieth year of collaboration. They are recipients of the Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement.
