The Production Company

It was sad to hear that after 21 years, Melbourne based professional theatre company The Production Company will hang up their tap shoes and pack away their costumes for the final time at the end of the 2020 season.

The Production Company has brought us such shows as the Australian professional premieres of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Grey Gardens, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Curtains and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

The Production Company productions and artists have won numerous Australian theatre awards including the 2012 Helpmann Award for Best Musical which was awarded to Grey Gardens. Pamela Rabe and Nancye Hayes also won the Helpmann Awards that year for their respective roles.

Opening Night- The Beautiful Game

The Beautiful Gameopened at Melbourne’s Chapel off Chapel on Saturday, September 14th. Starring Stephen Mahy and Stephanie Wall, members of the Theatre People team were there for the opening.

Excerpt of Review:

“The evocative score by Andrew Lloyd Webber transports you straight to the Emerald Isle, carrying the story along with stunning instrumentals, incredible solo pieces and exquisite harmonies. Paired with book and lyrics by Ben Elton, who handles the often heart wrenching story with grace, empathy and touches of well-placed humour, and it is an absolute winning combination. Whilst the piece is 20 years old, its themes are still incredibly relevant to the world today.”

Opening Night: Muriel’s Wedding

Based on the 1994 movie of the same name, Muriel’s Weddingtells the story of Muriel Heslop (Natalie Abbott) an ABBA loving social outcast whose biggest goal in life is to get married.

Entwining the well known and loved music of ABBA (played by Jaime Hadwen, Laura Bunting, Evan Lever and Maxwell Simon) with the new, specifically written music by Keir Nuttall and Kate Miller- Heidke, Muriel’s Wedding is like feast for the ears.

Muriel’s Wedding is currently playing at Brisbane’s QPAC Lyric Theatre until October 26th. Tickets and further information can be found at
