Monday October 29th saw the announcement that Beautiful- The Carole King Musical will tour Australia in 2018 beginning with Melbourne in February before Brisbane in July and Adelaide in December.

THIS WEEK IN MUSICAL THEATRE
Me and My Girl
This week, Neglected Musicals together with the Hayes Theatre presented Me and My Girl. After only one day of rehearsals this talented cast of Tim Maddren, Kirby Burgess, Tina Bursill, Nathan Carter, Daniel Downing, Erin James, Nat Jobe, James Lee, Marney McQueen, Jess Voivenel and Simon Burke performed seven well attended shows.
Stars of Aladdin participate in Perth Telethon
Over the weekend, Aladdin’s leading performers Ainsley Melham and Hiba Elchikhe cast a little magic of their own when they performed at Perth’s annual telethon. The 2017 Telethon raised $36,431,381.00 to ensure a better life for the children of Western Australia now and in the future.
Zahra Newman nominated for AACTA Award
Congratulations to The Book of Mormon’s Zahra Newman who has been nominated for Best Newcomer in this year’s Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards. The ceremony will be held on December 4th at Sydney’s The Star Event Centre.
Saturday October 28th saw the opening of The Production Company’s third show in their 2017 season Brigadoon at the State Theatre in Melbourne. With an amazing cast lead by Rohan Browne as Tommy and Genevieve Kingsford as Fiona, the show is set in the mysterious village of Brigadoon.
Brigadoon is village in the Scottish highlands which due a spell placed on it only reappears for one day every 100 years.

Sunday November 5th will see the music of Bryant and Frank come alive at Melbourne’s Chapel off Chapel. Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank were the first Australian writing duo to have a piece performed Off- Broadway (Prodigal).

A Little Princess – In Concert
Based on the much loved novel by Frances Hogdon- Burnett comes this new theatre adaptation by award winning writer/ performer Bradley McCaw. The one night only event at Brisbane’s Hayward Street Studios will be the first showing of music from this exciting new work. Featuring some of Australia’s finest performers this is a concert not to be missed !

Tuesday, October 24th saw the commencement of rehearsals for Highway Run’s production of High Fidelity ahead of their month long season at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre. The show tells the story of Rob (Toby Francis) a record shop owner and compulsive list maker who goes through a painful re-evaluation of his life after his girlfriend Laura (Teagan Wouters) leaves him. Rob slowly grows up and realises he needs to change his attitude in his search for happiness.

Last Five Years
Rehearsals swung into action this week for Andrew Kroenert and Katie Weston ahead of the Melbourne season of The Last 5 Years. The show explores the five year relationship of Jamie (Kroenert) a rising writer and Cathy (Weston) a struggling actress.
Jamie’s story is told in chronological order (beginning to end) while Cathy’s is told in reverse chronological order with the two characters only directly interacting momentarily during the wedding song as their timelines intersect each others.

Friday October 27th saw the company of Muriel’s Wedding move into the Roslyn Packer Theatre ahead of their first show on November 6th. It was a busy day as the company held their sitzprobe.
Sitzprobe is a German word for seated rehearsal and is often the first time the cast and orchestra come together to rehearse the show as a whole entity.

Wizard of Oz
On Friday October 27th the Brisbane public were treated to a media call in the Queen Street Mall as the cast of the Wizard of Oz walked through surprised lunch goers and patrons going about their shopping before arriving at a portable Yellow Brick Road that had been set up in the Queen St Mall. Lead by Dorothy (Samantha Dodemaide) the company stepped onto the brick road before delighting onlookers with a rendition of We’re off to See the Wizard and Merry Old Land of Oz.

Ashlea Pyke and Ben Wood wedding

Michael Falzon and Matt Hetherington
October 30th saw killer new musical Get Jack debut in two concert presentations at Sir Studios in New York. Amongst the cast were two Australians Michael Falzon (Rock of Ages, We Will Rock You) and Matt Hetherington (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Full Monty).
The Rock Opera musical tells the story of five women who rise from the dead to track down their killer and get their glorious revenge.
