Matilda Australia / NZ Tour closes
As the book closes on the first Australian / NZ tour we reflect back on the hit musical that is Matilda. With music and lyrics by our own Tim Minchin it is not hard to see why the show ran for over 800 performances.
It was announced on October 13th 2014 that Matilda would arrive at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in July 2015. The Australian launch took place on October 14th with Minchin treating the media to a special performance of “Quiet” and “When I Grow Up” on a grand piano atop a pile of giant books.
Matilda Australia/ NZ finishes with many accolades including 4 Sydney Theatre Awards (2015) and 13 Helpmann Awards (2016). A documentary titled Matilda and Me was also made, narrated by Nel Minchin it tells the story of the Australian debut and of composer Tim Minchin.
Congratulations to the Matilda Company, the adults and children who brought the book to life 8 times a week in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland.

They’ve got the designer salopettes, but do they have the courage to hit the slopes? Athletic ski instructor Tony is eager to put them through their paces. Both on and off piste! Away from home, emotions and passions are running high while the ‘après ski’ brings nerves and insecurities dangerously close to the surface.
