The world premiere of Antarctica: A New Musical will take place at Hobart’s Theatre Royal on Saturday, October 29th 2016. The last time the Theatre Royal (Australia’s Oldest Theatre) presented a show about Antarctica was on May 3rd, 1841, this was to commemorate James Clarke Ross’s expedition and the visit to Hobart of his ships Erebus and Terror.Directed by Terence O’ Connell, Antarctica will be performed by a stellar cast led by Bobby Fox (Jersey Boys)Vincent Hooper (Heathers) and Genevieve Lemon (Billy Elliot).

Home Grown

This Sunday (October 23rd)Home Grown will be held at Chapel off Chapel, Prahran. Starting at 8pm the evening promises to be a great one. Hosted by Gillian Cosgriff there will be performances by Daniel Assetta (2015 Rob Guest Endowment Award winner, CATS), John O’Hara (Songs for a New World, WICKED), Jenkin and Hannagan, Lucy O’Brien, Bradley McCaw and many more. International Convention Centre- Now Open

On Tuesday October 18th stars of Australian theatre together with the Talent Development Project were on hand to put the new International Convention Centre through its paces. Performers included David Harris (WICKED, Legally Blonde), Amanda Harrison (WICKED), Trevor Ashley (Les Misérables), Nathan Foley (Mamma Mia) and Delta Goodrem (CATS).

Liza’s Back! in Brisbane

Accompanied by a seven piece band, Trevor Ashley brings his show Liza’s Back! (Is Broken) to Brisbane. Showing at QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre from January 17th to 22nd, 2017 Liza’s Back! (Is Broken) explores the question “what would happen if Liza decided to perform all the broadway roles she never got to play?

Mack and Mabel- full cast announced

Directed by Trevor Ashley (Heathers) Mack and Mabel tells the story of Mack, a man with two obsessions Movies and Mabel Normand, the title characters will be portrayed by Scott Irwin (Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical) and Angelique Cassimatis (Little Shop of Horrors). Joining Irwin and Cassimatis are Deonne Zanotto (West Side Story) as Lottie, Stephen Valeri (First Date: The Musical) as Fatty and Kuki Tipoki (Little Shop of Horrors) and the very talented ensemble of Caroline Kaspar (Chicago)Mikayla Adams (WICKED), Sally Hare (Girls On Tap, Carmen) and recent graduates Shay Debney (VCA)Adam Di Martino (VCA), Jessica Voivenel (WAAPA) and Zachary Webster (Brent Street).

My Fair Lady- Brisbane Launch

On Monday 17th, Anna O’Byrne was on hand to launch the Brisbane season of My Fair Lady at QPAC. My Fair Lady plays at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre from March 2017, tickets go on sale October 31st, 2016.

On Wednesday, October 19th, the company of My Fair Lady (currently showing at the Sydney Opera House) celebrated its 50th performance. Congratulations!

Out From Under

On Monday, November 21st, The Seymour Centre will host Out From Under, an Australian entertainment industry response to mental health. RENT to hit Brisbane

From February 1st to 4th, RENT the musical will be performed at Brisbane’s MELT Festival with the performances of RENT to be held in the Brisbane Powerhouse’s Visy Theatre. Lauren Jimmieson and Samantha Leigh Dodemaide (both currently appearing in the Australian tour of Singin’ in the Rain) were on hand to help make the announcement singing “Take Me Or Leave Me” from the show.

Rob Guest Endowment Awards

On November 21st, The Sydney Lyric Theatre will host the prestigious 2016 Rob Guest Endowment Awards Grand Final. This years event will see the six finalists Du Toit Bredenkamp (Sound of Music)Hilary Cole (Kinky Boots)Linden Furnell (Kinky Boots), Stefanie Jones (Sound of Music)Genevieve Kingsford (Light in the Piazza) and Matthew Predney (Fiddler on the Roof) perform two songs each before the audience and judges. The winner of the event will take home $20,000 to use towards professional development and training. Tickets are available from:

Underground Broadway

Monday October 17th saw the Brisbane theatre community gather at The Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley to witness performances by members of the Singin’ in the Rain cast (currently showing at QPAC), The Tap Pack, Ben Gillespie, Bradley McCaw plus members of the Brisbane theatre industry and up and coming juniors. Underground Broadway began in August 2016 and runs bi- monthly with the next evening to be held in December.

Australian’s Lala Barlow (RENT, Into the Woods) and David Muscat (Billy Elliot UK) are performing in the UK Premiere of Side Show which held its first preview at the Southwark Playhouse in London last night (UK Time). Les Misérables to perform in Dubai

Cameron Mackintosh and  Dubai Opera have announced a truly international cast for the Dubai season of Les Misérables which opens at Dubai Opera on November 10th and runs until December 2ndLes Misérables is the first musical to perform at Dubai Opera since its opening in August 2016.
