Cabaret dances into Australia
Willkommen to the KIT KAT KLUB! The Hayes Theatre have announced Cabaret as their first show for 2017. Based on John Van Druten’s 1951 play “I Am a Camera” Cabaret is set in the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy cabaret venue and place of extravagant celebration in 1930s Germany. Cabaret revolves around the story of British headlining act at the Kit Kat Klub, Sally Bowles and her relationship with American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Starring Paul Capsis as Emcee, Kate Fitzpatrick (Australia’s original Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show) and Debora Krizak (Jerry’s Girls, Anything Goes) with more cast to be announced soon. Cabaret will be on at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre from January 9th, 2017 and Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from April 27th, 2017. Dream Lover- World Premiere
On Thursday, October 6th, Sydney’s Lyric Theatre hosted the world premiere of Dream Lover- The Bobby Darin Musical. Dream Lover tells the story of Bobby Darin, an American singer, songwriter and actor whose hit songs included “Splish Splash”, “Dream Lover” and “Mack the Knife”. Bobby Darin is played by singer, stage performer and television host David Campbell. Joining Campbell on stage is a cast that includes Hannah Fredericksen (City of Angels, Olivia Newton- John in mini-series Molly), Caroline O’Connor (Anastasia, Anything Goes), Bert Labonte (An Officer and a Gentleman), Martin Crewes (Sweet Charity, Dr Zhivago) and Marney McQueen (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hairspray).
Dusty full cast announced
The full cast of The Production Company’s show Dusty was announced this week. Joining Amy Lehpamer (Sound of Music, ONCE), Todd McKenney (Anything Goes, Grease) and Elenoa Rokobaro (Side Show, Ghost) in the principal cast are John O’Hara (WICKED), Virginia Gay (Calamity Jane, TV Show- Winners and Losers), Baylie Carson (WAAPA), Anne Wood (Follies) and Tyler Coppin (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). The ensemble are Luke Alleva, Ella Burns, Emma Hawthorne, Loren Hunter, Nicholas Kyriacou, Rubin Matters, Chidi Mbakwe, Nicole Melloy, Joshua Mulheran and Ruvarashe Ngwenya.
Dusty heads to Adelaide
The Production Company is proud to announce that their production of Dusty is set to tour to Adelaide. Dusty opens at the Adelaide Festival Centre on December 31st for a strictly limited season.
Home Grown- October 23rd
Home Grown together with Chapel off Chapel will host the next evening of new musical theatre by Australian songwriters on October 23rd. Home Grown Songbook Series
Home Grown is presenting to you a one night only gala celebrating the songs and musicals of the late Nick Enright and his collaborations with composers Terence Clarke, David King, Max Lambert, Alan John and Glenn Henrich.
Largely known for his plays, Enright also co-wrote 11 musicals with his five writing partners, wrote the book for the smash hit musical The Boy from Oz and even wrote an opera. Motor- Mouth Loves Suck Face is a new Australian musical written and directed by Anthony Crowley and performed by Thomas Bradford, Olivia Charalambous, Brenton Gardiner, Lachlan Hamill, Jessica Harris, Elias Jabbour, Sophie Jackson, Belinda Jenkin, Ashleigh Kreveld, Nicole Kaminski, Danielle Matthews, Harley Morrison, Luisa Scrofani and Safiye Vurdu.

The time has come! Wednesday, October 12th saw Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne host the first preview of the highly anticipated musical Kinky Boots! Featuring 16 original Grammy® and Tony® winning songs written by pop icon, Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots tells the story of 4th generation shoe salesman Charlie and drag queen Lola. Through an unlikely friendship, Charlie and Lola work together to save the factory from bankruptcy. The cast includes Callum Francis (Kinky Boots UK) as Lola, Toby Francis (The Ten Tenors, Dogfight) as Charlie, Sophie Wright (Avenue Q, WICKED) as Lauren, Teagan Wouters (Fiddler on the Roof, Dirty Dancing) as Nicola and Nathan Carter (WICKED) as George.

Light in the Piazza
Life Like Company together with The Arts Centre, Melbourne present a strictly limited season of The Light in the Piazza. Starring 2016 Rob Guest Endowment Finalist Genevieve Kingsford as Clara and Jonathan Hickey (The Fantasticks) as Fabrizio, The Light in the Piazza tells the story of Clara Johnson, a southern USA girl whose mother Margaret takes her on a holiday to Italy. Here Clara meets a young Italian man, Fabrizio Naccarelli after her hat blows of her head into his hands. A whirlwind romance ensues and with marriage plans on the horizon Margaret does everything she can to break the couple up before the Naccarelli Family discover Clara’s secret.
Kingsford and Hickey are joined onstage by Chelsea Plumley (Blood Brothers) as Margaret Johnson, Jeremy Stanford (South Pacific), Anton Berezin (Dr Zhivago, Once) as Signor Naccarelli, Johanna Allen (The Sound of Music) as Signora Naccarelli, Josh Piterman (CATS) as Giuseppe Naccarelli, Madison Green (Georgy Girl) as Franca Naccarelli, Colin Dean (The Sound of Music, Once), Ashleigh Hauschild (2016 Rob Guest Endowment Award Semi- Finalist, Curtains) and Tobias Madden (CATS) are ensemble members.

Matilda- last weeks in Melbourne!
Matilda the Musical, winner of 13 Helpmann Awards including Best Musical, Best Male Actor in a Musical and Best Female Actor in a Musical must leave Melbourne on November 11th. The show opens in Brisbane on Friday, November 25th !

The principal cast for the Melbourne season of My Fair Lady has been announced with Anna O’Byrne (West Side Story, Love Never Dies) continuing as Eliza Doolittle. Joining O’ Byrne is television and stage actor Charles Edwards (Downton Abbey)
as Professor Higgins, Reg Livermore as Alfred P Doolittle, Robyn Nevin as Mrs Higgins, Mark Vincent (Dirty Dancing) as Freddy Eynsford- Hill, Tony Llewellyn- Jones as Colonel Hugh Pickering and Deidre Rubenstein as Mrs. Pearce.

On Monday October 3rd , Home Grown together with the Victorian College of the Arts hosted readings of Derek Rowe and Nicole Melloy’s “Bettie” and Bradley McCaw’s “The Oasis”. Those in attendance heard the first 30 minutes of each show, the evening also included an engaging panel session. Congratulations to all!

Ghost the Musical- Asia Tour
Justine Puy (Ghost, WICKED) and Kirsty Sturgess (Ghost Australia, RENT) join the international cast of Ghost Asia which will tour Asia throughout 2016/2017 beginning in Ningbo, China on November 4th, 2016. Puy and Sturgess have joined the rest of the cast in London for rehearsals ahead of the tour.
Musical of the Year
Robbie Smith (Nice Work If You Can Get It) is currently playing Rudy Brown in Elokay Production’s season of Musical of the Year. This is Smith’s UK theatre debut. The show runs until October 29th at the Lost Theatre, London.
