The show will then tour to Perth, playing at the Perth Concert Hall for two performances on June 5th, 2021.
From StoreyBoard Entertainment, the producer who brought us the critically-acclaimed Barnum and directed by Tyran Parke, CHESS THE MUSICAL is inspired by extraordinary real-life events and first premiered to glowing reviews in London’s West End in 1986 starring the beloved Elaine Paige. The West End season ran for three years, resulting in a BBC listener poll ranking CHESS THE MUSICAL seventh in a list of‘ ‘Number One Essential Musicals’ of all time.
Featuring hits including ‘I Know Him So Well’ recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest selling UK chart single ever by a female duo and the upbeat pop favourite ‘One Night in Bangkok’, music from CHESS THE MUSICAL is known the world over, with the original concept album described by Rolling Stones as having a” dazzling score (which) covers nearly all the pop bases”.
Time Magazine declared the score as “rock symphonic synthesis ripe with sophistication and hummable tunes”.
CHESS THE MUSICAL tells the story of a complex love triangle combined with dramatic political intrigue, set against the background of the Cold War in the early 1980s, where Soviet and American forces attempt to manipulate an international chess championship for political gains. The Melbourne performances of this much-loved musical, which recently premiered in Moscow, will feature the London West End orchestrations with a full orchestra. The stellar Melbourne cast for this semi-staged concert-style event will be announced in February 2021.
CHESS THE MUSICAL is produced by Adrian Storey from StoreyBoard Entertainment (Barnum, Follies, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and directed by renowned director Tyran Parke (Barnum, Follies, Sunday in the Park with George) and with Musical Direction by David Piper (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, The Boyfriend, The Boy From Oz), Set & Costume Design by Dann Barber (Barnum, 33 Variations), Sound Design by award-winning designer Michael Waters and choreography by Freya List.

Young Frankenstein (pronounced Fronkesteen)
Hayes Theatre Co is thrilled to be returning to the stage in 2021 with a spectacular new production of Young Frankenstein, the musical by comedy genius Mel Brooks adapted from his own classic film which parodies the horror movie genre. Brought to you by the creative team behind the 2019 smash hit American Psycho, director Alexander Berlage, choreographer Yvette Lee, and designers Isabel Hudson and Mason Browne. this monstrous new production will hit the Hayes stage in February 2021 featuring a sensational cast of Hayes favourites and brilliant debutantes.
Scientist Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the infamous scientist, travels reluctantly to Transylvania where he has inherited his family’s estate. Before long, he finds himself back in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestor, and with the help of hunchbacked sidekick Igor and yodelling lab assistant Inga, he brings to life a new creature to rival that of his grandfather. But this time when the monster escapes, absolute hilarity ensues.
Young Frankenstein has all the panache and quick-fire humour of the screen sensation, with a little extra theatrical flair. Featuring songs like The Transylvania Mania and the immortal Puttin’ on the Ritz, Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment.
This hilarious musical stars Matthew Backer (Only Heaven Knows) as Frederick Frankenstein, Shannon Dooley (American Psycho), Ben Gerrard (American Psycho, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown), Amy Hack (Caroline or Change, Cry Baby), and Lucia Mastrantone, Olivia Charalambous, Nick Eynaud and Luke Leong-Tay in their Hayes’ debut.

H.M.S Pinafore will return to Riverside Theatre, Paramatta in 2021. Playing from January 13th to 23rd, H.M.S. Pinafore playfully sends up a class-obsessed society with the story of a feisty flower of British maidenhood who falls for Ralph Rackstraw, a handsome sailor with a surprising secret.
Played with a sly wink to changing social mores and a nod to queer culture, this gender-fluid take on love and duty is anything but Victorian. Hold on tight as a cast of 12 triple threats give the already topsy-turvy world of Gilbert and Sullivan a hilarious, sexy, and sequin-spangled spin.
Directed by Kate Gaul and first seen at the Hayes Theatre in 2019, this critically acclaimed chamber production of a light opera masterpiece hits the refresh button on its song-strewn mockery of class, British exceptionalism, and the rise of unqualified people to positions of power.
