Cast Announcement: Billy Elliot

This week saw the announcement of further adult cast members for the 10th Anniversary Tour of Billy Elliot which commences at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre on October 10th 2019.

Aaron Smyth will portray Older Billy as well as being a part of the original West End cast of An American in Paris, Smyth won a Gold Medal at the prestigious Genee International Ballet Competition in 2008,  and most recently portrayed the role of the Snow Cavalier in Disney’s The Nutcracker in the Four Realms.

Damien Bermingham will take on the role of Big Davy and Ensemble RolesBermingham was a member of the original Australian cast for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert before playing Amos Hart in Chicago and most recently was seen on stage as Tony in The Bodyguard.

Stefanie Jones to play Rhonda in Muriel’s Wedding

Stefanie Jones will play the role of Muriel’s best friend, Rhonda Epinstall, in Muriel’s Wedding. She replaces Elizabeth Esguerra who has had to withdraw for personal reasons. The musical opens at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne’s East End Theatre District in March.

Jones has recently been seen on stage in Oklahoma !, Brigadoon, Dream Lover and Sound of Music. She is also an accomplished violinist. For more details:

Applause named as the next Neglected Musical

On Wednesday, February 27th, Neglected Musicals together with Hayes Theatre announced their next Neglected Musical. Caroline O’Connor will star in Applause.  The story centres on aging star Margo Channing, who innocently takes a fledgling actress under her wing, unaware that the ruthless Eve is plotting to steal her career and her man.

The show will run for 7 script in hand performances only from May 1st, 2019 with tickets available from



Opening Night: Jersey Boys

Saturday, March 2nd saw Jersey Boys open at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. Jersey Boys tells the story of the band from the early years, when Tommy Devito recruits a young Frankie Castellucio, through their volatile years as The Four Seasons, and into Frankie’s solo career. The audience were transported to the era through the music, sets and costumes, and responded to each musical performance like they were at a Four Seasons concert. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable show.

Aladdin celebrates 900th performances

Last week saw the cast of Aladdin AUS/ NZ celebrate their 900th performance. Sunday, March 3rd is the last performance in Auckland before the show moves to Adelaide in April. Congratulations everyone!

NYC Street named in honour of King Kong

On Wednesday, March 6th, The New York Mayor’s office will hold a ceremonial street naming honouring the contribution which King Kong has made to the culture of New York City by declaring the area outside of the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd Street) King Kong Court.

The ceremony will celebrate the 86th anniversary of the iconic original film. King Kong the musical  is now playing at the Broadway Theatre where it opened on Thursday, November 8 (previews began October 5, 2018).
