Calendar Girls – Cast Announcement

The full cast of Prince Moo Productions season of Calendar Girls was announced this week. The heartwarming, comedic tells the true story of a friendship, determination and hope.

When Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris agree to raise money for a new couch in the local hospital waiting room where they spent so many uncomfortable hours. They manage to persuade fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence.

The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

Muriel’s Wedding – Cast Announcement 

Sydney Theatre Company presents a Sydney Theatre Company and Global Creatures Production, the world premiere of Muriel’s Wedding.

Muriel’s Wedding tells the story of Muriel Heslop, a young lady stuck in a dead end life in Porpoise Spit. Her dream is a perfect wedding- the white dress, the church and the attention. Unfortunately there is one thing missing- a groom.

Making her professional stage debut as Muriel will be Melbournite, Maggie McKenna. Joining McKenna on stage is Justine Clarke as the long-suffering Betty, with other members of the Heslop clan played by Briallen Clarke as Joanie, Michael Whalley as Perry, and Connor Sweeney as Malcolm, while Helen Dallimore plays the strangely ever-present beauty consultant, Deidre Chambers.

Celebrating her marriage to Chook (Aaron Tsindos), Tania Degano is brought to life by Christie Whelan- Browne, accompanied by a posse of bridesmaids, two of whom are played by Manon Gunderson Briggs and Laura Murphy. Brice Nobes, the first guy to ever ask Muriel on a date, is played by Ben Bennett and Stephen Madsen is Olympic swimming hopeful Alexander Shkuratov, coached by Josh Quong Tart’s ruthless Ken. The cast also includes Sheridan Harbridge, Mark Hill, Annie Aitken, Kaeng Chan, Tony Cogin, Adrian Li Donni and Kenneth Moraleda.

Merrily We Roll Along– Rehearsals 

Rehearsals for the Independent Music Theatre Company Watch season of Merrily We Roll Along are well under way ahead of their season which opens on June 29th at Southbank Theatre, Melbourne.

Telling the story of Franklin Shepard, a wealthy LA movie producer as he desperately wishes things could of turned out differently. Merrily We Roll explores the forces that shape our lives; success and what it costs, friendships and what it can bear, dreams and what they become.

Grease- The Arena Experience

The Newcastle season of Grease- The Arena Experience will play at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre from Friday, July 14th until Sunday, July 16th. Starring Meghan O’Shea (Singin’ in the Rain) and Drew Weston (Ghost the Musical) as Sandy and Danny, Grease- The Arena Experience includes a mass ensemble of over 600 young performers and guest stars Jemma Rix (Ghost the Musical, WICKED) as Teen Angel.

Elise McCann – CD release 

Much loved Australian theatre performer Elise McCann’s (Matilda) debut CD Dahlesque is due for release on Friday, June 23rd. The CD features songs from movies and musicals based on books by Roald Dahl. Songs include My House, which McCann sung during her time in the Australian season of Matilda.

After wowing the London audiences at Wonderland in 2016, Australian performer Trevor Ashley (Les Miserables) presents his brilliant tribute to the iconic Liza Minnelli. LIZA’s Back! (is broken) explores the parts that Minnelli should have done over the last forty years.
