Helpmann Award winners announced
Congratulations to the winners of the musical theatre categories at this year’s Helpmann Awards which were held in Sydney on Sunday, July 15th and Monday, July 16th 2018.
Leading the charge, winning Best Female and Male Actor in a Musical were Esther Hannaford for her portrayal of Carole King in Beautiful and David Campbell who portrayed Bobby Darrin in Dream Lover.
The awards for Best Female Actor and Male Actor in supporting roles were presented to Amy Lehpamer (Beautiful) and Mat Verevis (Beautiful) respective
Topping off an already successful evening Beautiful: The Carole King Musical won Best Musical.

Madiba announces Adelaide and Perth seasons
Madiba The Musical will play in Perth, Adelaide and New Zealand this January! Celebrating the life of the former South African leader Nelson Mandela, the energetic and compelling show interweaves stories of the fight against apartheid & forbidden love in a troubled land. African dance & vocal traditions are given a contemporary setting alongside eternal love songs & stirring anthems.

West Side Story to play in Sydney and Melbourne
Opera Australia and GWB Entertainment this week announced that West Side Story will play in two of Australia’s most iconic theatres in 2019. The Arts Centre Melbourne will host the show from April 6th-28th before it transfers to the Sydney Opera House from August 16th – October 6h.
A modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet; this tragic love story tells the tale of two young people whose happiness is destroyed by the hate of two enemy camps in New York City’s urban jungle. The ‘Jets’, sons of previous immigrants to America, battle the new arrivals from Puerto Rico, the ‘Sharks’, for domination of the streets.

Theatre People Industry Night

Evita Children’s Cast Announced
Congratulations to the 18 young performers who have been cast in the upcoming production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s EVITA at the Sydney Opera House from September. Three sets of six children will alternate in ensemble roles.
The young actors are Jack Barton (aged 10, of Maroubra), Alysiah Carlino (12, Alfords Point), Julien Daher (8, Queens Park), Jacob Drew (11, Mosman), Paige Hewlett (9, Balgowlah), BeBe Liu-Brennan (8, Strathfield), Robbi Morgan (9, Hornsby), Allerah Murdock (10, Condell Park), William Oakley (12, Woodcroft), Pamelia Papacosta (11, Earlwood), Benjamin Park (10, Strathfield), Sara Petrovski (11, Peakhurst), Raffaella Reid (8, Bellevue Hill), Avaleigh Rock (10, Hurstville Grove), Amelie Rose (9, Allambie Heights), Austin Taylor (10, Balgowlah), Oliver Trus (10, Darlinghurst) and Zoe Zantey (9, Sans Souci).

The magical show of Aladdin, the story of Agrabah peasant Aladdin and Princess Jasmine have taken their story of love, hope and a search for something more to Perth’s Crown Theatre where they opened on Saturday, July 21st. Perth holds a special place for principal performers Ainsley Melham who plays Aladdin and Shubshri Kandiah who plays Jasmine. Melham studied at WAAPA, graduating in 2012 and Kandiah was born in Perth.

Beautiful: The Carole King Story
The talented cast of Carole King biographical musical, Beautiful opened at Brisbane’s QPAC on Friday, July 20th to a full theatre. When you see the show it is not hard to see why it won 5 Helpmann Awards including Best Musical.

The Rocky Horror Show
The Transylvannians have arrived at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre with a bang. Rocky Horror held their opening night on Wednesday, July 18th with audience members swept up in the fun of the show as the cast, led by Todd McKenney as Frank ‘n’ Furter, danced the time warp and performed their hearts out.
