Since the start of Covid-19 restrictions, Opera Queensland have been busy behind the scenes working with opera artists and musicians around the world to bring you a daily dose of opera in your home. Filmed in the backyards, bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms of artists across the globe, Opera Queensland’s daily digital program An Aria A Day offers you a front row seat from your home to some of the greatest arias of all time.
This week saw Sarah Murr (Shrek, Les Miserables) perform the hauntingly beautiful ‘Where?’ from the 2015 opera, Rabbits by Kate Miller-Heidke and Lally Katz, with additional music by Iain Grandage.
London based Australian performer Monica Swayne (Aladdin, Fiddler on the Roof) recently recorded ‘I’d Rather Be Sailing’ from musical A New Brain with her dad Gary after the two realised they had never worked or performed together. We hope you enjoy the piece as much as we did. We can’t wait until you can actually do a duet in the same room either Monica and Gary!

I won’t go home this year to see my parents. So I decided to ask my dad if he would teach me the guitar again over FaceTime. It’s been fun. It’s been challenging. But then we realized we’ve never worked or performed together. So over the past few week. Across the globe (London and Adelaide) with many scanned sheets of music and transposing and voice notes, we’ve blindly been working on this whilst the other sleeps. ❤️?? can’t wait to actually do a duet in the same room with you Dad haha. Enjoy. Xx ?? ??
Courtney Monsma and Timothy Carroll
This week also saw Courtney Monsma (Frozen, SIX) and Timothy Carroll (WICKED, Grease) record ‘Only Us’ from Dear Evan Hansen.
