Season Announcement: Come From Away Comes to The Capitol

The rescheduled Sydney season of Come From Away will now take place at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from Thursday, June 3rd 2021.

Cast Announcement: A Letter For Molly

Written by Gumbaynggirr woman, Brittanie Shipway (Big Fish, Hope Initiative), A Letter For Molly tells the story of four generations of First Nations women as they journey through many themes including pregnancy, confrontation, relationships with family and the Stolen Generation.

Ursula Yovich (Barbara and the Camp Dogs) , Lorinda May Merrypor (The Sapphires), Joel Granger (The Book of Mormon), Angeline Penrith (Winyanboga Yurringa) and Christie Hayes (Home and Away) make up the cast for this poignant, reflective story.

The first reading took place this week and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this Australian made production!


Event: Raise the Curtain

Hosted by Jimmy Rees (Giggle & Hoot), Raise the Curtain will feature a selection of pop, rock and musical theatre classics performed by a host of theatre performers from around the country including Danielle O’Malley (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Bella Paige (The Voice), Euan Doidge (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Kala Gare (SIX), Simon Gleeson (Les Miserables), Samm Hagen (Legally Blonde), Nigel Huckle (The Ten Tenors), Joseph Naimau (Beautiful: The Carole King Story), Nat O’Donnell (Mamma Mia!) and Angela Scundi (Thoroughly Modern Millie).

Event: Rhonda Burchmore to Rock the Regal

Friday, October 16th will see the official re-opening of Adelaide’s The Regal Theatre to the public, following its complete refurbishment to its glorious art deco style. Guests will be entertained by theatre’s very own regal star, Rhonda Burchmore. Burchmore’s A Grand Night at The Regal has a Friday, October 16th show at 8:00pm and a Saturday, October 17th show at 2:30pm.

Event: An Evening With Todd McKenney

Riverside Theatres Digital is thrilled to launch its second digital concert series with award winning performer Todd McKenney.
An Evening with Todd McKenney will be showcasing the career that has made him a household name, singing a selection of songs that shaped and inspired him. With a professional career spanning 40 years featuring roles across both stage and screen, including his most notable role of Peter Allen in the Australian hit production of The Boy from Oz, roles in Cats, West Side Story, The Rocky Horror Show and most recently seen stepping into the role of Lord Farquaad in the smash hit musical Shrek, McKenney is truly one of Australia’s most versatile performing artists.
An Auslan interpreter will sign this performance.

Carriageworks Saved From Bankruptcy by Generous Donors

A Sydney landmark has been given a multi-million dollar lifeline.
The Carriageworks precinct in Eveleigh has been saved from bankruptcy by a group of generous donors. The stricken arts and cultural institution went into voluntary administration in May. Carriageworks is Australia’s largest multi arts venue, established in 2007 and occupies the old Eveleigh Railway Workshops in Redfern.

Update: Kickstarter Campaign- Theatre In A Box

Theatre In A Box is a party board game for musical theatre lovers, created by Brenton Crewes, Flynn Crewes & Paul Morrison however they need your help to make it a reality! Theatre in a Box is is on Kickstarter and will only come to fruition if the project is financially supported on Kickstarter.

As of 11:00am AEST on Sunday, July 19th, the campaign has raised $33,428 with 335 backers. With $6,532.00 needed before the campaign ends at midnight on Thursday, July 30th, we ask you do dig deep and pledge.

Arrival: Tim and Sally Dashwood

We welcome to the theatre family Sia Rose Dashwood. Sia was born on Tuesday, July 14th 2020 and is the second child for Tim (George’s Marvellous Medicine, FAME) and Sally Dashwood (A Chorus Line, Mack and Mabel) . Congratulations Tim, Sally and Ivy-20 months.

Congratulations to Katie McKee (The Bridges of Madison County, The Sound of Music, WICKED) and her husband Austin who are expecting their first child in December 2020. We wish for you, a healthy and happy pregnancy and can’t wait to welcome them to the theatre family.

Since the start of Covid-19 restrictions, Opera Queensland have been busy behind the scenes working with opera artists and musicians around the world to bring you a daily dose of opera in your home. Filmed in the backyards, bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms of artists across the globe, Opera Queensland’s daily digital program An Aria A Day offers you a front row seat from your home to some of the greatest arias of all time.

This week saw Sarah Murr (Shrek, Les Miserables) perform the hauntingly beautiful ‘Where?’ from the 2015 opera, Rabbits by Kate Miller-Heidke and Lally Katz, with additional music by Iain Grandage.


Monica Swayne

London based Australian performer Monica Swayne (Aladdin, Fiddler on the Roof) recently recorded ‘I’d Rather Be Sailing’ from musical A New Brain with her dad Gary after the two realised they had never worked or performed together. We hope you enjoy the piece as much as we did. We can’t wait until you can actually do a duet in the same room either Monica and Gary!

This week also saw Courtney Monsma (Frozen, SIX) and Timothy Carroll (WICKED, Grease) record ‘Only Us’ from Dear Evan Hansen.



Australian’s Named in West End Frozen Cast

Congratulations to Monica Swayne (Aladdin, Fiddler on the Roof) and Mikayla Jade (The Voice, Cavalia) on being cast in the West End production of Frozen. Opening on Friday, April 2nd 2021, Adelaide born Swayne will make up part of the ensemble whilst Brisbane born Mikayla Jade will portray stubborn but lovable reindeer Sven in her West End debut.
