Arts Wellbeing Collective
This week saw the announcement of the Arts Wellbeing Collective, a group of approximately 90 Victorian arts and cultural organisations who’s shared vision is to effect better mental health and wellbeing for Victorian arts workers in this much needed initiative. Esther Hannaford to play Carole King in Beautiful

On February 27th, Melbourne’s the Toff in Town will host Broadway Unplugged. February’s event will see performers from the casts of the Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots while showcasing special guests from Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA. Brisbane farewells Matilda
Last night saw Brisbane say farewell to the hit musical Matilda after QPAC has hosted the show for the last few months. The Brisbane season ended on a high with a sold out season, standing ovation at the end of the night’s show and applause as each of the performers exited the stage door.
Elise McCann who has played the role of Miss Honey since the show opened in Sydney in July 2015 will continue in the role for the first few weeks of the Perth season before handing the baton to seasoned performer Lucy Maunder (Heathers, Grease, Dr Zhivago) who will continue the Perth season before heading to Adelaide with the show. Matilda marks Maunder’s return to the stage after giving birth to her daughter on January 21st.
Elise McCann to release CD
Elise McCann is excited to announce that in while juggling playing Miss Honey in the Brisbane season Matilda and working as a producer on her own play I am My Own Wife which has recently finished in Melbourne she has been spending Mondays and Tuesdays recording the vocals of her album at RockCandy studios in Melbourne.
GLUGS Award Winners
Monday, February 6th saw the annual GLUGS awards night take place at Sydney’s Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. Around 100 guests celebrated the 2016 Sydney season of theatre. Winner of the award for Most Outstanding Mainstream Musical went to Aladdin while Winner of the award for Most Outstanding Independent Musical was awarded to Side Show.
Other winners in the musical theatre categories were: David Campbell – Dream Lover (Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Musical), Anna O’Byrne – My Fair Lady (Most Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Musical), Reg Livermore – My Fair Lady (Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical), Marney McQueen – Dream Lover (Most Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical) and Ainsley Melham – Aladdin (Most Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer). Congratulations to all!
Some WICKED news for Jemma Rix fans
On Sunday, February 12th Jemma Rix (WICKED) announced on social media that she is about to begin work on a solo album with talented Adelaide musician and producer Sam Leske at The Lair Studio.
Nominations announced for Tasmanian Theatre Awards
The nominations for the 2017 Tasmanian Theatre Awards have been announced with new musical Antarctica scoring 6 nominations including Best Ensemble, two nominations for Best Performance by a Female in a Leading Role (Genevieve Lemon and Imogen Moore) and Best Direction (Terence O’Connell).
