Further information on auditions can be found at https://moulinrougemusical.com/melbourne/auditions

Fangirls

As Hamilton proved, in a world where new musicals are often focus-grouped into blandness, fabulous butterflies can still emerge from the chrysalis of a single brilliant mind. Such is FANGIRLS, whose book, music, and lyrics are by young Sydney-born writer Yve Blake.

Fascinated by the way that society can see a mob of screaming fans as “embarrassing” (if female, and at a pop concert) – but “passionate” (if male at a footy match), Yve set out to write the show she wished her 14-year-old self could have seen: a comedy all about the ways that the world tries to convince young women that they’re not as worthy as their brothers. It follows Edna, a plucky misfit scholarship girl who believes that she alone can win the heart of the world’s biggest pop star; Harry. Sure, he has 38 million other fans, but for Edna, that’s merely a hurdle. Because there’s nothing she won’t do to meet Harry. No really, nothing.

With an amazing eclectic cast (including Aydan from The Voice), inexhaustibly witty dialogue, and heart-pumping, infectious songs, it’s an ode to love that smashes all generational generalisations: whether or not you’ve ever been a fangirl/boy it will move you and leave you with involuntary grin syndrome.

Fangirls will play at the Ridley Centre, Adelaide Showground from Saturday, February 27th to Sunday, March 14th, 2021 with tickets on sale at https://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/events/fangirls/

Hayes Theatre- Carols by Cabaret

Carols by Cabaret is an annual Christmas charity event at Hayes Theatre Co. The show has been produced every year since Hayes Theatre Co opened. The Wayside Chapel helps people experiencing homelessness with a safe space and vital essentials, such as clothing, showers, and mental health services. Produced by LPD Productions, this charity event has donated over $60,000 to The Wayside Chapel for their Christmas lunch and celebrations for the homeless and less fortunate in our community.

This year they will feature a myriad of performers drawn from throughout the history of Hayes Theatre Co. Follow Hayes Theatre Co on social media for updates!

This year the concert will be live-streamed, so you can watch from the comfort of your own home. When you purchase your ticket, you will receive a link to the event. The price of your ticket will be donated to the Wayside Chapel and will pay for meals at their Christmas lunch.

Tickets can be purchased from https://lpdprod.sales.ticketsearch.com/sales/salesevent/3768

Please note: Unlike previous years this is an online event only, Hayes Theatre will not be open to audiences until 2021.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pippin Opens in Spectacular Fashion

This weekend saw Pippin open at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre. Their magic was well and truly done as the cast’s stellar performances on the ground and in the air wowed the audiences. Special praise goes to the swing team of Gretel Scarlett, Joel Granger, Angelique Cassimatis, and Joe Meldrum. In true swing style, Scarlett went on stage, playing a role she doesn’t even cover!

Oklahoma! Opens in the Wild West

Wednesday, December 2nd saw Oklahoma! open at Perth’s Heath Ledger Theatre. Reviews have spoken highly of the show especially Emily Havea’s portrayal of Curly McClain which required written consent from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organisation. The usual 15-minute ballet dream scene is instead turned into a contemporary dance, showcasing the cast’s immense talent.

The show runs until Sunday, December 20th with tickets available from https://bsstc.com.au/whats-on/oklahoma
