Brisbane and Adelaide: The Mormons are coming!

Exciting news for theatregoers in Queensland and South Australia! The Book of Mormon has announced 2019 seasons of the Tony, Grammy and Helpmann Award winning seasons.

The show will play for a limited time only at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre from March 16th before opening at Adelaide’s Festival Theatre on June 27th.

Cast Announcement: Aspects of Love

The cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love was announced earlier this week ahead of the season which opens on November 22nd, 2018 at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre.

Playing the role of Rose Vibert is Caitlin Berry (Melba, She Loves Me), Jonathan Hickey (The Fantasticks!) as Alex Dillingham. The role of Alex’s charming libertine Uncle George will be played by internationally renowned and Helpmann Award winning opera and musical theatre star, Grant Smith (Sweeney Todd, Barnum). Rising star Stefanie Jones (The Sound of Music, Dream Lover) will play Giulietta Trapani. Jones was most recently at the Hayes Theatre Co in Carmen Live or Dead.

Also joining the cast are Jay James Moody (The Drowsy Chaperone) as Marcel Richard, Matthew Manahan (Cabaret) as Hugo Le Meunier, Wendy Lee Purdy (Wicked UK/Ireland) as Elizabeth and introducing Ava Carmont as Jenny Dillingham.

The ensemble includes Hugh Barrington, Alexander Finn, Annalise Hall, Christopher Hamilton, Megan Kozak, Michaela Leisk and Sam Marques.

Rehearsals in full swing across Australia

Rehearsals are in full swing for multiple shows due to tread the boards of Australian Theatres in the next few months, these include The Boy From Oz, Evita, School of Rock, Jersey Boys and Calamity Jane.

Blake Bowden welcomes twins to his family

Congratulations to Blake Bowden (Book of Mormon) whose loving family unit welcomed twin boys to the world on July 20, 2018. Otis and Alfie who were born early are fighting a brave and strong battle and we wish Blake, Troy, Hannah, Lani, Judah, Dash and of course Otis and Alfie all the best and send much love from their Theatre People family!

Congratulations to Marika Aubrey (Matilda) on her role in the USA National Tour of Come From Away which opens in Seattle, Washington on October 9th, 2018. Aubrey who is well known for her portrayal of Mrs Wormwood in the Australian tour of Matilda will be a Swing in the hit musical.

Come From Away tells the story of the events of September 11th, 2001 when the U.S. Aviation Administration made the decision to shut down its airspace forcing over 4,000 planes to land at their closest airport. 38 international aircraft would be unexpectantly diverted to the Gander Airport. The people of Gander, a small town in Newfoundland, Canada were unprepared as the population of their town doubled. The story tells of the kindness and generosity of the local people towards the “plane people”as they opened their homes to complete strangers.

Moulin Rouge! “Smart, shameless, and extravagantly entertaining!”

These were the words written by the New York Time’s Ben Brantley about new hit musical Moulin Rouge. The show premiered at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre this week.  The musical is based on the 2001 20th Century Fox motion picture by Australia’s Baz Luhrmann and is produced by Australian company Global Creatures.
