Kinky Boots – Brisbane Opening
Saturday, August 26th saw Cyndi Lauper’s hit musical, Kinky Boots open at Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre to a very responsive audience, resulting in a well deserved standing ovation. The show runs in Brisbane until October 22nd.

My Fair Lady – Sydney Opening
Wasn’t it loverly!
Hit musical, My Fair Lady has returned to Sydney for a short season at The Capitol and Sunday, August 27th saw them celebrate with a grand opening night. An enjoyable evening was had by all!

They’re Playing Our Song
They’re Playing Our Song marks the first musical for new Melbourne based theatre company, Company Eleven. Based on the real life relationship of Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager, They’re Playing Our Song is a musical comedy telling the story of a neurotic composer (Vernon Gersch) and an eccentric lyricist (Sonia Walsk) trying to juggle their budding professional and personal relationships.
Up and coming performer and co-founder of Company Eleven Alana Tranter (Hello, Dolly!, Georgy Girl) will play Sonia Walsk opposite Glenn Hill (Matilda, Jesus Christ Superstar). Other members of the cast are Baylie Carson (Hello, Dolly!, Dusty), Belle Power, Sam Ward (Jesus Christ Superstar) and James Watkinson.

Congratulations team at Passion Productions and the QLD Conservatorium of Music whose production of CONfused earlier this year raised over $5,000.00 for the Actors’ and Entertainers’ Benevolent Fund of QLD and Headspace.
Gypsy Cloak Ceremony
Saturday, August 26th saw the Gypsy Cloak handed from The Book of Mormon to Aladdin in a ceremony held at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne. The recipient of the cloak was Leah Howard who received it from Book of Mormon cast members Matt Holly and Loredo Malcolm.
The Gypsy Cloak is a theatre tradition where the most experienced ensemble member from one show passes it to the most experienced ensemble member of the next show.
The wardrobe department places a patch on the cloak to represent their show and a ceremony is held to acknowledge the handover of the cloak between the two shows.
Songs For Girls
Written and performed by Adam Noviello (Matilda, Funny Girl), Songs For Girls is a new, original cabaret that will have you reminicing while enjoying the music of performers such as Tina Turner, Judy Garland and more.

Matilda opens in Auckland, NZ
Thursday, August 24th saw Matilda the Musical open at Auckland’s Civic Theatre following sold out previews. Congratulations to the cast and crew on a great performance which resulted in a standing ovation from the appreciative New Zealand audience. Matilda was played on the evening by Izellah Connelly.

Flag raising ceremony at Ground Zero
In the year of their inception, the Australian community commenced an informal September tradition of remembering the ten Australians who perished at Ground Zero on September 11th, 2001. Six years later, it has evolved into a formal flag raising ceremony.
This year the ceremony will be held at 12 noon on September 16th. Amanda Bishop, Kaye Tuckerman, Georgia Kate Haege, Marika Aubrey and Ben McHugh will perform the national anthems, the reading of ‘My Country’ and the names of the ten Australians and a performance of ‘True Blue’ to round out the ceremony.
