Wizard of Oz- cast announcement
They’re off to see the Wizard!
The full cast for the Australian tour of The Wizard of Oz was announced on Sunday, August 20th. Joining the already announced cast members Samantha Dodemaide (Dorothy), Anthony W
The show will begin previews on November 4th at Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre before touring Sydney from December 2017, Adelaide in April 2018 and Melbourne in May 2018.

Miracle City- Cast announcement
Sunday, August 20th saw the announcement of the cast for The Theatre Division and Sydney Opera House’s production of Miracle City. Making her musical theatre debut will be Australian singer/ songwriter Missy Higgins. Joining Higgins on stage as the Citadel Singers are Lara Mulcahy (Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!) and Josie Lane (Little Shop of Horrors, Jerry’s Girls).
Gus Murray (The Great Gatsby, McLeod’s Daughters) will play Reverend Ricky Truswell, his wife Lora Lee will be portrayed by Kellie Rode (Mamma Mia!, Rocky Horror Show) and his daughter Loretta by Jessica Vickers (Light in the Piazza, Fiddler on the Roof).
Loretta’s love interest will be played by Liam Nunan (Away, The Golden Age) and evangelist Pastor Millard Sizemore will be played by Anthony Phelan (Seven Types of Ambiguity).
Miracle City will play at the Sydney Opera House from October 12th -29th with tickets going on sale on Monday, August 28th from www.sydneyoperahouse.com
Tina Arena to play Eva Peron in Evita
Opera Australia this morning announced that Tina Arena will play Eva Peron in the Australian production of Evita which will open at the Sydney Opera House in September 2018.
Arena’s career began in 1977 as part of Young Talent Time and has stretched four decades and has included appearances at the 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, an Aria Hall of Induction in 2015, an Order of Australia medal in 2016 and in 2009 became the first Australian to be awarded the Knighthood of the Order of National Merit for her contribution to French culture.
She has appeared in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Notre Dame de Paris, Cabaret and Chicago.

Melba– Opening Night
Tuesday, August 15th saw Melba open at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre. The show tells the story of Nellie Armstrong, a determined young woman who set her eyes on becoming the best in the world at a time where women were discouraged from pursuing a life a life outside of family. Nellie Armstrong became a world famous Opera singer and in 1918 was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Her face adorns the Australian $100.00 note.
Melba is showing at the Hayes Theatre until September 9th but be quick as tickets are selling out fast.

Josh Piterman sings Australian anthem at Bledisloe Cup game
Saturday, August 19th saw Australian musical theatre performer Josh Piterman (Beautiful, CATS) sing the Australian anthem at the Bledisloe Cup match in Sydney. Congratulations Josh!

Aussies amongst nominees in 2017 Wilma Awards
Congratulations to Australians David Muscat and Lala Barlow who were both members of the Southwark Playhouse production of Sideshow which has been nominated in the Best Off West- End Show category of the 2017 edition of the Wilma Awards. Winners will be announced on Friday, November 3rd at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Public voting opens for the awards on September 1st at http://www.westendwilma.
