Recipient of the 2017 Sue Nattrass Award announced

The recipient of this year’s Sue Nattrass Award is Rob Brookman AM. Brookman is one of Australia’s most respected and experienced arts administrators. Recently he completed a five year term as Executive Director of the State Theatre Company South Australia and will commence his role as Executive Director of the Adelaide Festival in early May.

The Sue Nattrass award was set up in 2014 to recognise outstanding service to the live performance industry in a field that may not enjoy a high profile.

Sue Nattrass was a long serving president of Live Performance Australia and the first woman to hold the position. The award will be officially presented to Brookman at the Helpmann Awards on July, 24th in Sydney.

Helpmann Awards – Monday July 24th

Australian theatre’s night of nights, the Helpmann Awards will be held on Monday, July 24th at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. The night will include performances by the casts of Kinky BootsThe Book of MormonAladdin and My Fair Lady. The nominees for 2017 will be announced on Monday, June 19th and tickets are on sale Monday, May 1st. Further information can be found at http://www.helpmannawards.com.au

The Bodyguard Opening Night

Kinky Boots 200th Show 

Sunday, April 23rd saw the Australian company of Kinky Boots celebrate their 200th performance with a double show day at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. Congratulations on your 200th show everyone!

Thursday, April 27th saw the Kit Kat Klub reunite (with a few new members, Michael Cormick and Angelique Cassimatis) at the Athenaeum Theatre for the Melbourne season ahead of their official opening night on Monday, May 1st. Video footage has been released of David Harris‘ exceptional performance in TheaterWorks production of Next to Normal. Harris stars as Dan, husband to Diana, a woman who is battling bi-polar. The story follows the family through “Just Another Day” as they go battle the ups and downs of her disorder and life as a whole.

Outer Critics Circle Award nominations announced

Nominations for the 2016/17 Outer Critics Circle Awards have been announced and we are excited to see Australian’s amongst them.

Caroline O’Connor (Anastasia) is nominated for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

Tim Minchin (Groundhog Day) is nominated for Outstanding New Score.

As a whole Anastasia has been nominated for 13 awards and Groundhog Day has been nominated for 5.

Karli Dinardo

Melbourne local, Karli Dinardo made her debut on stage this week in the U.S. Tour of hit musical Hamilton. Dinardo is a swing in the show which is currently playing at San Francisco, California’s SHN Orpheum Theatre. Congratulations Karli.

Hayden Tee and Hugo Chiarella to join cast of Les Miserables in July

July 17th, 2017 will see Hayden Tee rejoin the West End production of Les Miserables as Javert. Tee briefly returns to Australia next week to perform in the Hayes Theatre production of Only Heaven Knows which runs from May 26th to June 24th.

Joining him on the West End is Hugo Chiarella (Les Miserables Australia) as Grantaire.
