The only thing we have to fear is fear itself…until now! A provocative catch-cry to get the attention of MICF lovers wanting to see a Moosehead recipient in action. Go To Hell!: Adam McKenzie is the second in a trilogy of discussions with worthy Moosehead winners 2017. Watson consists of Tegan Higginbotham, Liam Ryan and Adam McKenzie.
What significance does it have for you (and your act) to be one of the 2017 Moosehead recipients?
Watson are enormously grateful to be a 2017 Moosehead recipient. The Moosehead Award give comedians a chance to really explore their art and do shows they might not have been able to do otherwise. We are doing a horror-comedy this year and have the support of Moosehead means that that we can scare the hell out of some perfectly nice people.
What do you remember most about being told that you were a recipient and what did you do to celebrate?
I remember just thanking them like a hundred times. I’ve been known to over do it on the ‘Thank You’s’ sometimes but I took it to a whole new level. Oh that reminds me… Thanks for the interview. After I found out I called Tegan and Liam and told them we got it. Tegan told me to shut up and stop messing with her. Liam wept openly.
How difficult was the process and what do you think your unique quality was that enabled you to stand out as one of the recipients?
The first part is easy, just a one page brief telling them your idea. If you’re lucky enough to make it to round two then comes the interview… We were pretty nervous. As we were sitting at the Moosehead office, waiting for our interview, Tegan turned to me and said if I ruined this for her that she’d tell everyone about that time I cried watching Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants. What unique quality made us stand out? I just think we were excited about our idea. Moosehead is about helping shows that try to do something a bit different. We just told them that we wanted to do a show that focused on the themes of fear, isolation and loneliness… Classic Comedy!
Our idea came about because the world is in such a crazy place right now. Everyone is so afraid and seem to be making decisions that are based on fear rather than rational and considered facts. Trump is president! Terrorism affects our daily lives! Justin Bieber is about to release a new album. Our show is about Fear and how it controls us.
What would you say to encourage people to attend?
I would say that Watson Go To Hell! is as funny as it is scary. I can tell you thing… If you are scared of clowns then don’t worry, there are no scary clowns in our show. We promise. None at all. We certainly don’t have a clown called Bing Bong who wants to haunt your dreams! Watson Go To Hell! is a show you will never forget, mostly because it will give you horrifying nightmares!
