Need help preparing an audition? 'The Witches of Eastwick' Auditions for WATERDALE are only a few days away!

With Auditions for 'The Witches of Eastwick' less than one week away, we sat down and had a chat to Director James Terry, Choreographer Gaynor Borlase and MD Rach Edwards to suss out everything about the auditions, the show and the flying! Also attached is WATERDALE's very own online web series the 'W-LIST', this time counting down the top 5 most overdone audition songs.

Auditionees have been asked to prepare one song in the character/style of the show, What are you hoping to see at during the auditions?

James- Choosing only one song in an audition can be difficult especially when you want to audition for several characters. Pick something that shows off your vocal range, and something with a lot of character work. For those interested in playing the role of Darryl, it is important that you are very charismatic and that we see that when you walk into the room. If you're shy and take a while to ‘come out’, we need to see you break the closet door and show us who you are in the audition. The three Witches are bound to be popular roles, so it will come down to finding three talented girls that can really ‘blend’ and bond well together. I'd encourage the girls auditioning to be familiar with all three Witches characters.

Rachel- I'm so excited! I just want to see what everyone brings to the table, vocal wise and character wise. The great thing is the characters can be interpreted in so many different ways, it will be interesting to see how auditionees play with them!

Gaynor-  I have quickly fallen in love with the characters, so for me I'm really looking for our auditionees to try find out as much of the character/style of the show as they can and just show an excitement in bringing them to life.  Especially in the dance audition, I'm looking for the playfulness of the cast and a willingness to work together.

WATERDALE are building a great reputation for a very strong ensemble, What are the ensemble parts like in Witches?

Rachel- There are SO many opportunities for ensemble to be featured in this show. Not only are there lots of lines in the show, there are lots of fun little parts within the ensemble numbers. It is such a fantastic team show.

Gaynor- The ensemble is such a big part in this show, there are many characters within the ensemble that carry the storyline along, and it the ensemble, for me,  that show a massive change that is different to the witches of being overcome with Darryl’s “spell’ of charm.  It’s such an interesting story from the perspective of the ensemble.

James – The ensemble is my favourite part of the show. There will be a lot of ensemble involvement and several cameo roles and parts for them to play. As a director, I put a lot of focus into working with the ensemble. They are the backbone of the cast and when directed properly can be a stand out just like any lead character can be. I guarantee that you will not regret joining the ensemble if cast, I can’t wait to work on building the town of Eastwick with them!
