With the launch of the world premiere of Georgy Girl – the Seekers Musical – let’s consider some of the amazing facts about this band and their importance in Australian music history.

 

1. The Seekers were the first group ever to reach number 1 on the UK charts with their first 3 singles.

 

2. The Seekers were the first Australian group to reach number 1 in the USA (‘Georgy Girl’).

 

3. The Seekers were the first Australian group to reach number 1 in the UK (‘I’ll Never Find Another You’).

 

4. Their number 1 hit ‘The Carnival Is Over’ outsold everyone, including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

 

5. Their number 1 hit ‘Georgy Girl’ was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

 

6. The Seekers are the only surviving chart-topping band from the ’60s, anywhere in the world, with all the original founding members and are still performing and recording more than 50 years later!

 

7. The Seekers – Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley – were announced the joint Australians of the Year in 1967, were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1995 and awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

 

8. Their number 1 hit ‘I’ll Never Find Another You’ has currently over 14 million hits on You Tube.

 

9. The Seekers were the first Australian group ever to reach number 1 in the UK with a debut record (‘I’ll Never Find Another You’).

 

10. The Seekers are the only concert artists ever to draw a crowd of more than 200,000 people to a concert in the southern hemisphere.
