Returning to where it all began, the masters of misdirection and the mistresses of mayhem are back to thrill, excite and entertain Sydney audiences this holiday season.
The Illusionists debuted at the Sydney Opera House in 2012 and this brand new production, Direct from Broadway, is nothing short of jaw-droppingly spectacular.
It’s difficult to review a magic show without revealing the surprises, so I’ll try and keep this spoiler-free.
What honestly surprised and entertained me most about the show, aside from the incredible close-up magic and death-defying stunts, was how darn funny the show was!
The audience joy is genuine, palpable and contagious as The Trickster, Showman, Mentalist, Conjuress, Daredevil, Inventor and Manipulator give a master class in magic, illusion, mind tricks and comedy.
Each performer is extremely accomplished in their individual area of performance speciality, but the combination of being able to see them all on one stage together is unique and an experience not to miss.
The Trickster, Jeff Hobson, and The Inventor, Kevin James, were part of the inaugural Illusionists performance team in 2012 and will be retiring from the show after this run. So aside from the show being hands down just a super amazing fun night, this maybe one of your last opportunities to see two masters of their craft.
The audience for opening night included all ranges, confirming that this is the perfect show for school holiday entertainment, especially if you are a magic fan.
I found myself often sitting forward in my seat trying to figure out how the magic worked, but then realised that simply wasn’t going to happen, so I sat back and completely enjoyed the illusions unfolding in front of me.
