12 Angry men meets The Apprentice with a splash of Samuel Beckett and a sprig of Survivor.
Red Stitch Actors Theatre presents the Australian and English language premiere of The Grönholm Method by Catalonian writer Jordi Galcerán Ferrer. His internationally successful Spanish language play El Métodois a strange, absurdly funny and timely look at human behaviour. It poses the questions: How far would you go to get what you want; how much humiliation could you stand and to what lengths would you go to destroy the competition?
The Gronhölm Method pushes applicants at an ‘interview’ to see how far they are willing to risk their self respect in order to secure a highly paid multi-national sales executive position.
Through a series of mysterious promptings, what-if scenarios and increasingly bizarre tests, the applicants become increasingly paranoid and desperate. Under this claustrophobic climate of distrust and lack of scruples, alliances are created, feuds foment, secrets are revealed, and, one by one, the candidates are eliminated in a cold struggle for survival.
Director Nadia Tass says : “I’m intrigued and horrified by the ferocity and viciousness of a corporate culture which strips people of their humanity in a psychological mind game that sometimes amuses, other times humiliates, but always horrifies.”
Multiple AFI Award winner Nadia Tassis one of Australia’s most respected and unique filmmakers whose back catalogue includes classic Australian works such as The Big Steal (1989), Amy (1998) and Malcolm (1986). She has also directed plays in Australia including Miss Bosnia, Cosi and The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.
Nadia Tass makes her Red Stitch Theatre directorial debut with The Grönholm Method. Her latest Australian feature, Matching Jack is due for release later this year.
