Making theatre history in Sydney, is the Australian premiere of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby, adapted for the stage by the award winning playwright Simon Levy, and produced by the acclaimed Epicentre Theatre Company at the Ku-ring-gai Town Hall in Pymble, opening on Friday 16 September through Saturday 8 October 2016.

Producing The Great Gatsby, widely regarded as the greatest American novel of the twentieth century, is a true “coupe de theatre” for the small North Shore based Epicentre Theatre Company.

The Great Gatsby is a story of obsession, love, money and the American dream set against the backdrop of the Roaring Twenties. The summer of 1922 and the mysterious, rich and handsome Jay Gatsby lives in his party-fuelled Long Island mansion. He hopes to rekindle the love of golden girl Daisy Buchanan who had married someone else when Gatsby had little money and no social prospects.  The play brings to life the best of Fitzgerald’s dialogue, joyfully demonstrating the strengths that the stage brings to storytelling, even to a masterpiece like Fitzgerald‘s hallowed novel.

Local actor Adam Garden plays the handsome business magnate Gatsby, played by Oscar winning Leonardo DeCaprio in Australia’s Baz Luhrmann 2013 movie. And primary school Band Conductor, Kate Gandy, has been catapulted centre stage as the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, while Lauren Hollingworth leaves her Chatswood shoe store to star as Myrtle Wilson!

The Great Gatsby is the perfect night out, to recreate the nostalgic and extravagant parties of the 1920s Jazz Age, as the audience are invited to dress up as 1920s flappers and straw boaters (think Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey!), to bring their own picnic dinners and drinks to have pre-show in the auditorium (BYO alcohol permit) which is set up cabaret style, with table seating – limited availability, 14 shows only, so book early!

Enjoy an exquisite evening at the theatre with The Great Gatsbybrought to life in a sweeping Australian premiere production, directed by Jody Goodman.
