Hey! Hey! Theatre People!
As the economy recovers, thankfully so have a lot of theatre companies. While most are not running out buying new Ferraris just yet, there’s a sense of optimism that wasn’t so apparent just 12 months ago. If there’s one underlying theme that’s consistent across all companies who have been able to make it through this trying period it’s the fact that they all have loyal audiences. They’ve chosen shows that appealed to their patronage and once again, they’ve delivered excellent customer service and an excellent product for their market. Nova in particular was one company that went above and beyond in the customer service department (based on feedback that I’d heard through the grapevine) and their impressive audience attendance reflected their ability to deliver the right product to the right people.
I’d love to say that the dust has finally settled, but the reality is that there are still several companies who are facing financial turmoil. We hope that these businesses can take the appropriate measures to get their businesses back on track, but for some, sadly, it might be too little too late.
Our TP talk forum has taken a turn for the better in my view and while it may not be as “controversial” as it has been in previous years, it is slowly finding its feet again and is now a place for positive discussion and constructive feedback rather than a petrie dish for grudge matches, lead by anonymous cowards who hide behind the cloak of anonymity. I am happy to say that kind of behaviour has no place on Theatre People anymore and frankly, it’s been the most significant change we’ve made to the business this year.
As the year comes to a close, I’d just like to take a moment to thank everyone who made this site possible. There is an incredible amount of work that goes on behind the scenes here at TP and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has had a hand in making Theatre People possible.
I’d like to thank our loyal advertisers who continue to support us. Some of our advertisers have been with us from day one and I’m eternally grateful for all your ongoing support and participation in the site. We walk a tightrope when it comes to reviewing our client’s work, but thanks to the mature heads in charge of the companies and the unwavering desire to produce the best product possible, they support the notion of honest, open and well constructed feedback and for the most part, take the good with the bad. The feedback I’ve had from companies about ticket sales and auditionees coming from Theatre People has again been excellent, so I’d glad we could add some value to the marketing efforts of each company.
We have a loyal team of writers and reviewers that dedicate their time to delivering you the most up to date and relevant content. Our volunteer workforce has grown substantially and represents a broad cross section of the community. As a result, we’ve produced content that’s diverse and more importantly, generated by the community itself. We are always welcoming of new people to the team, so if you’d like to come on board and write or review for us, then we’d love to hear from you. A HUGE thanks to everyone who’s contributed to the site. We wouldn’t be here without you.
I’d also like to thank our full timers… Jon, Tim, Sal, Rich, Simon, Michael, Kris, Renee, Anne and Will who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the site runs smoothly. We’ve made a concerted effort to improve the volume and quality of the content this year and I have to say, I’m stoked with how far we’ve come in the past 12 months. We have produced more features, newsflashes and reviews than ever before and have set a new standard for our business. However, as the old saying goes “you are only ever as good as your last performance” and as such, we will be taking an even more fervent approach next year, producing better quality content, faster to take TP to the next level.
2011 will mark the biggest year in our 11 year history, and as our service offering expands, as will our team. We will soon be conducting a survey of all our readers, which I encourage you to take part in. This survey will be made available to you in the next few weeks and based on your feedback, we will make significant improvements to the functionality and usability of the site.
I would also like to thank you, our readers. You guys are the reason we do this. So to all 14,000 of you who check in every month… thanks for making us a part of your day.
