dreamgirlsFull of onstage joy and backstage drama, Dreamgirls tells the story of The Dreams, an up-and-coming 1960s girl singing group – inspired by the career of Diana Ross and The Supremes – as they experience the triumphs and tribulations that accompany their pursuit of fame and fortune in the tumultuous music industry.

Never before seen in Australia, this Award winning musical will have its Australian Premiere at Chapel off Chapel from Friday 29 May until Sunday 14 June 2015.

It all begins when three friends form The Dreamettes and get their big break at an amateur competition, and begin singing backup vocals for a major star. As their own fame grows, things begin to spin out of control when their agent’s business manoeuvres trump their friendship, and fortune and success take them down a path of heartbreak and turmoil.

It features: Thando Sikwila as Effie (The Voice, Season 3, Team Kylie); Anna Francesca Armenia as Deena (Nina, In the Heights); Zenya Carmellotti as Lorelle (HAIR, Victorian tour); Winston Hillyer as Curtis (The Lion King, HAIR, Showboat); Gareth Jacobs as Jimmy; Djon Alexander as CC (Piragua Guy, In the Heights).

Supported by: Augustin Tchentcho (as Marty), Sharon Wills (as Michelle), Joshua Martin (In The Heights), Sarah Calsina (In The Heights), James Ao, Rhys Valesequez (Carrie The Musical), Tambo, Vanessa Menjivar, Briana Walker, Iopu Auva’a (HAIR Victorian Tour) Manu Lavemai, Chenelle Brown and Emile Jae Fernandez.

Dreamgirls will dazzle with over 150 costumes.

Directed by Terence O’Connell  (Empire, Spiegelworld World Tour;  Crazy For You, The King & I, Damn Yankees, Pajama Game, Kismet and 42nd Street, The Production Company;  The 39 Steps, Hit Productions; and Motherhood The Musical, National Tour.  Musical direction by Tyson Legg and choreography by Darren Stack.
