LIMITED STUDENT RUSH TICKETS ON SALE IN DECEMBER

Australia has fallen head over heels for the stage musical ONCE, now students have an additional reason to love the Grammy, Tony and Olivier award-winning production. A limited number of student rush tickets will be available for all performances at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in December, for just $40.

Tickets will be available from box office two hours before each performance on a first come, first served basis. Students will be required to present a valid student identification card to box office in order to be eligible, with a limit of two tickets per student ID, per performance.

Based on the Irish film of the same name, ONCE follows the tender romance of a struggling Irish busker and a beautiful Czech immigrant. The original film starring musicians Glen Hansard (The Frames) and Markéta Irglová became a surprise international hit in 2006, winning an Oscar for Best Song (“Falling Slowly”).  The collection of songs about love, longing and heartbreak with a folk rock feel also feature in the delicate stage production, which has captivated audiences in London, New York and Dublin.

“A musical to fall in love with” – The Australian

“Once is an exquisite jewel of a musical” – Sunday Herald Sun

“Seduces you from the outset” – The Age

A sell-out since making its world premiere on Broadway in January 2012, the Australian stage production is led by British Director John Tiffany and Music Supervisor Martin Lowe, part of the original New York creative team.

Heading up the ensemble in the key roles of Guy and Girl are Tom Parsons and Madeleine Jones. The cast also includes Anton Berezin, Andrew Broadbent, Ben Brown, Gerard Carroll, Colin Dean, Margi de Ferranti, Matthew Hamilton, Lisa Hanley, Brent Hill, Shanae Icovski, Stefanie Jones, Keegan Joyce, Amy Lehpamer, Tara Lyon, Summer Moore, Lachlan Neate, Jane Patterson, Greg Stone, Susan-ann Walker and Paul Watson.

Entering the theatre the audience is invited on stage for a Guinness as the cast strikes up a song, setting the scene for an intimate evening at an Irish pub. An achingly beautiful, joyously uplifting story about love, life and friendship then unfolds, speaking to the power of music to connect us all.

ONCE won eight Tony Awards® in 2012 including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Direction. It was also named Best Musical by the Drama Desk Awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle and won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2013. It opened in London’s West End last year where it won two Olivier awards including Outstanding Achievement in Music.

ONCE made its official Australian premiere on 4 October 2014.
