The time has arrived for Bobby to celebrate his 35th birthday once again and this time, the festivities are taking place in the City of Churches!

Company first took to the Broadway stage back in 1970, with a book by George Furth and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. A show that continues to be one of Sondheim’s most popular today, it went on in its premiere season to be nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards, ultimately taking home seven including the all-important Best Musical gong.

In 2016, it’s the Hills Musical Company that’s bringing Company back to the stage. An award-winning company, it’s been performing in the Adelaide Hills for over four decades. For Company, musical direction is by Mark DeLaine, himself an award-winner, and at the helm as director is Fiona DeLaine, a graduate of Flinders Drama and a well-known Adelaide performer and director.

Company is not a highlighter for all the reasons not to marry,” DeLaine says. “It is not a magnifying glass for all the reasons marriage is pointless or evil. What it is, is a focus on the need in our cold, crazy, disposable society not to throw something out because it has flaws.”

It’s certainly a message that’s every bit as relevant today as it was when Company debuted 45 years ago.

The Hills Musical Company’s Company is the first time this much-loved work has been performed in Adelaide in 16 years. So whether you’re a lady who lunches or you’re getting married today, if you want to make sure you’re not waiting another decade to see this gem on stage, it’s best you make your way to the Adelaide Hills quick smart to experience the feeling of being alive!
