A message from TVPTC Team:

We are reaching out to our entire community of fans and supporters not just with news of the postponement of our production of Chess, but also because artists, performers, and organisers are in crisis. Not only does The Very Popular Theatre Company need your help, but artists and arts organisations everywhere need your help now.

As you will know, our upcoming performances of Chess The Musical were scheduled for the Newcastle Civic Theatre next week on 27th and 28th March. Due to the current legislations in place, and advice from Prime Minister Scott Morrison, we have been directed to observe that non-essential organised gatherings of more than 500 people should not go ahead from Monday 16 March. Ensuring the safety of our audiences and those involved in our production is our greatest priority. As such, our 8pm performance on Friday 27th March and our 2pm & 8pm session on the 28th March at the Civic Theatre will be postponed until Friday 26th and Saturday 27th February 2021.

Ticket holders should retain their tickets for the new postponed dates. Patrons unable or unwilling to attend the new dates can obtain a full refund from their point of purchase. We hope you will be excited to still join us for Chess The Musical on our new postponed dates which will help support our company and ongoing operations during this challenging time. In this unprecedented situation, our Box Office is fielding a tremendous volume of requests and we greatly appreciate your patience, support and understanding. Please keep an eye out for an email from them soon, with details on how to trasnfer your tickets across to the new dates.

The impact of COVID-19 on small, community organisations is unprecedented. From our local theatre venues, to independent theatre companies, to arts non-profits, event organizers everywhere are in immediate financial danger. For all of us, every ticket matters – one cancelled event could mean the difference between making rent and closing our doors forever.

If you are unable to make the new dates for Chess in 2021, we urge you to please consider passing on your tickets to a friend so a refund is not required, or donate your refund to a local arts organisation during this difficult time.

We are continuing to closely monitor the situation to stay across the latest updates and to implement appropriate measures for our future 2020 season events, including Andy Griffiths Just Macbeth! based on the advice from local health authorities.
