Voice Movement Therapy is an energetic expressive arts system based on the artistic and therapeutic qualities of the singing voice. It is holistic and integrative in approach and grounded in the body. VMT was developed by Paul Newham of UK, and draws on the pioneering work of singing teacher Alfred Wolfsohn, actor Roy Hart and psychologist CarlJung.Voice Movement Therapy encourages you to unlock the full expression and power of your voice through song, movement and imagination, in an organic exploration of the voice and body. Through uncovering the full range of your voice we access the full range of our human experience in a contained and safe environment.Research shows that Voice Movement Therapy has positive effects on depression and anxiety. In a recent study with Young Women with Non-suicidal self-injury VMT had statistically significant improvements in emotion regulation, alexithymia, self-esteem, somatic symptoms and social dysfunction.
