Melbourne’s premiere queer comedy darlings PO PO MO CO are at it again. Following the epic success of their dance inspired award-winning Melbourne Fringe show, the troupe are now trying their hands at ‘Serious Theatre’ – sort of.

Joined by Melbourne’s best LGBTQIA+ performance makers, PO PO MO CO and Friends will both parody and pay homage to Ray Lawler’s iconic play Summer of the 17th Doll .

When first performed in 1955 ‘The Doll’ was celebrated for shining a light on authentic Australian voices and experience. This project aims to do the same. “This is a theatrical experiment,” says Artistic Director Kimberley Twiner. “We don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like. But it’s going to be camp. It’s going to be wild. And it’s going to be the pure raw voice of contemporary queer Australia!”

Known for tearing up trad theatre with queer claws, PO PO MO CO have been wreaking havoc with their subversive comedy since 2015.

Joining PO PO MO CO for Summer of the 17th Doll are drag artist Charity Werk , theatre maker Kerith Manderson-Galvin , comedian, improviser and spoken word artist Nikki Vivica, and classical singer Christian Gillett (Trio of Dips).

PO PO MO CO are Kimberley Twiner, Lily Fish, Hallie Goodman and Becky-Lou.
