Mr John Kotzas, QPAC Chief Executive, announced today an additional theatre will be built at QPAC, with a seating capacity between 1500 and 1700.
The Queensland government will set aside $125 million in this year’s state budget with the additional $25 million coming from QPAC. The new theatre is expected to be complete by 2022.
“This will be celebrated news for live performance in Queensland, for our creatives and artists practising in Queensland, for our technicians and specialists and for our audiences,” said Kotzas.
He was joined on the Lyric Theatre Stage by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier and Member for South Brisbane Jackie Trad, Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch and QPAC Chair, Professor Peter Coaldrake AO for this exciting announcement.
Disney’s hit musical Aladdin is currently playing at QPAC and cast members joined in the celebrations of the announcement.
