Read on to spend 5 minutes with Ben Kochan:
How would you describe your show to someone who knew nothing about it?
With great difficulty! The show isn’t really about anything which makes it hard to promote but I swear it’s funny. It’s a bunch of jokes I’ve been working on for years and I think they’re ready to be seen by the Melbourne public!
What/Who was its inspiration?
Hmmmm, well the title of the show was based on something I saw on the show Penn and Teller Fool us.
What do you think its best quality is?
It’s funny I think! There’s lots of jokes and I’ve tried the jokes a lot until I’ve got them as good as I can get them. If you’re not laughing you can come up to me after the show and I’ll send you some recordings of all the times the jokes have gone well!
Why should people see it?
Because it’s great to have something to do. It’s nice to have plans, something on the calendar to look forward to, you can make a night out of it, maybe get dinner before or after, then even if it’s bad you can discuss how bad it is with the people you went with. I’m not saying it will be bad but even if it is I think it’s still a good night.
If there is one thing you would like to say to your fans, what is it?
Thank you for all your support, if there’s one thing that gets me up in the morning it’s my fans. And Coffee!
Who or what has been the greatest influence on your career?
Mr. Bean because he’s always knocking that 3 wheeled car out of the way. I wish I had the guts to do stuff like that!
Who makes you want to create
The angel on my shoulder saying “Get to work!” And the devil on my other shoulder also saying “Get to work!” But he’s got a knife!
When did it become clear to you that comedy and entertainment were your passions?
I did a speech in class about WW2 and I was crushing, getting huge laughs, and I thought to myself I might have something here!
What does comedy, creation and entertainment mean to you?
Umm, I like it, I think it’s fun and I get a kick out of it!
What are 3 words that describe you?
Funny, cool, nice
What are 3 things that would surprise people to learn about you?
I’m a Leo, I’m 28 years young and I’ve got brown hair!
How excited are you to be performing in front of a live audience again after last year’s covid shut down?
I am excited but I’ve been performing for live audiences for a while now getting this bloody show ready!
What is next for you?
I’m going to be recording a stand up comedy album that I hope will go platinum.
BEN KOCHAN– I’M DONE IT
Last year Ben was watching the show Penn & Teller: Fool Us. It’s a magic show and it’s wonderful. One of the magicians chose an audience member to help with a trick. The audience member wrote on a card while the magician had his back turned. The magician said “Have you done it?” and the lady said “I’m done it”.
Ben found it to be pretty funny! Everything else in this show is something Ben has found funny. He’s tried to turn these funny things into jokes, bits, chunks, and maybe even a story. That’s sort of how comedy works!
