Following the success of the inaugural Longhouse: Melbourne in 2018, Contemporary Asian Australian Performance returns to Southbank Theatre on Thursday 5 September for a panel discussion with key creatives from MTC’s production of Golden Shield by Anchuli Felicia King.

Panellists include Golden Shield Director Sarah Goodes, Assistant Director Alice Qin, and Associate Designer Kat Chan, with an introduction by CAAP’s Executive Producer Annette Shun Wah. Writer-performer Diana Nguyen will facilitate the discussion.

The event will be live-streamed on CAAP’s Facebook page, including audio of questions and comments from the audience.

Following the discussion will be networking opportunities intended to facilitate connections within the Asian-Australian professional performance community.

Golden Shield is globetrotting thriller by trailblazing Asian-Australian writer Anchuli Felicia King. The play follows tenacious young lawyer Julie Chen and her sister, Eva, embroiled in a class action exposing an American tech giant’s involvement with the Chinese government’s internet firewall, Golden Shield. The sisters must put their differences aside to confront censorship, mass surveillance, corporate greed and their own complicated past in this Melbourne Theatre Company NEXT STAGE Original production.

Longhouse is CAAP’s networking and information-sharing program, drawing on the traditional cultural significance of the longhouse as a meeting place where people gather to make plans, pass on their skills and share stories.
