As you would have read only days ago, Leap of Faith, received a nomination for this year’s Tony Awards for Best Musical.  Clearly that isn’t enough to save the show (which received weak reviews), from listing its final performance date.  Despite the Tony nom, Leap of Faith will play its final performance on May 13 at the St. James Theatre.

Based on the 1992 film, Leap of Faith follows con artist Jonas Nightingale (Raul Esparza) as his roving ministry breaks down in a Kansas town.  Not to be fazed, he sets-up camp and invites the locals to a revival.  The town sheriff, Marla McGowan (Jessica Phillips), is determined to stop him from taking the townspeople’s money.  Directed by Christopher Ashley, the show features music by Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Janus Cercone and Warren Leight and choreography by Sergio Trujillo. At the time of closing the show will have played 24 preview performances and 20 regular performances.
