Melbourne, 15 MAY 2014 – After an acclaimed and critically praised debut production of Edward Allan Baker’s Dolores, Q44 Theatre Co. will return to the stage with an emotionally-charged production of Lyle Kessler’s, Orphans on Thursday, 12 June. The play will expose the struggles of three men as the all-male ensemble, featuring Ashley McKenzie, Mark Davis and Gareth Reeves, explore societal expectations of men to withhold emotion and notions of ‘being a man’. Kessler’s script is simple yet powerful, begging viewers to connect with each character through comedy and bravery as they watch each man yearn for love and respect in their own individual way.

Q44 Theatre Co. founder and Orphans director, Gabriella Rose-Carter chose the one-act play with the intention to explore the human condition through emotion. “If one person in every audience relates to a character, has a memory engaged, shares an emotion with one of the boys and basically falls into the story with us… then I will be happy” says Rose-Carter.
