Multi Matilda Award Winning actor Dash Kruck brings his critically acclaimed debut cabaret, I Might Take My Shirt Off, to Sydney’s Hayes Theatre Co.

Featuring a suite of original cabaret tunes co-written by Kruck and composer Chris Perren, and accompanied by a live band, I Might Take My Shirt Off follows the story of Lionel, a shy and seemingly unremarkable gay man suffering the after-effects of a relationship break-up. Finding it difficult to cope, he begins seeing a terrifying German therapist who encourages him to perform a cabaret to help him process some of his feelings. The only problem – he’s never done a cabaret before! Lionel draws from on his limited knowledge of the style and formidable Wikipedia skills to hilariously stumble his way through his hour onstage. After covering sex, booze, boys and mythical beasts, he finds that maybe he’s not so bad at expressing himself after all.

Part character comedy, part revelation, part break-up story and all entertainment, Kruck has forged together a unique piece of cabaret that at once exemplifies and challenges the classical cabaret format. As the character Lionel is asked to step into a cabaret, a form he doesn’t quite understand, we are treated to the performer Dash Kruck who is a master of his craft.

A hit at the Brisbane and Melbourne Cabaret Festivals, I Might Take My Shirt Off will play for three Sundays at Hayes Theatre Co as part of the Month Of Sundays program from September 20.

Dash Kruck is a regular on Queensland stages appearing in theatre and musical productions by Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite, Oscar Theatre Company, Harvest Rain, Gold Coast Arts Centre and more. He is the proud recipient of two Matilda Awards (2007 & 2012), most recently for QTC’s A Tribute of Sorts that he also co-wrote.

“This show is an unusual blend of sharing of pain, satire, storytelling, and musical dexterity. Premature glitter, adult humour, mythical beasts and booze blend into a compelling, memorable, unique world-class entertainment.” – Weekend notes

“Holy s***! – Dash Kruck’s I Might Take My Shirt Off is one of the best written cabarets I have seen for a LONG time.” – Kris Stewart, Artistic Director of Brisbane Powerhouse and Founder of New York Music Theatre Festival

“As tender and wonder filled as it is funny, and as skillfully built as any headline act. Dash Kruck is an absolute star” – XS Entertainment
