AMADEUS by Peter Shaffer

A new take on a modern masterpiece, Amadeus explores the rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, the court composer for the Emperor of Austria.

Jealous of Mozart’s genius and resentful of his own mediocrity, Salieri rejects God and vows to destroy his rival’s career.

If He didn't want me to praise him with music, why implant the desire? Like a lust in my body! And then deny me the talent?

CASUM reinvigorates the script with music for modern ears, using fresh compositions written by VCA honours graduate Matt Westwood and Jess Keefe (Beloved Elk, The Jane Austen Argument, and Orlando[2012]).

This slick production features the best emerging talent from across Melbourne and will be staged for 7 performances only. Amadeus will show you the world of Mozart in a way never heard before.
