The Hayes Theatre Co have announced their 2019 season:
We are thrilled to unveil to you our 2019 Season featuring knights in shining armour, villains, murderers, conmen, sisters, sailors and a couple of legends. Once again we have assembled a program featuring some of the best-known shows alongside the newest musicals, and talents from the world of cabaret.
We are very excited to announce that our bathroom facilities will be undergoing a major renovation in early 2019 thanks to the City of Sydney. This does mean that we won’t be presenting a show during January and February, but we will be champing at the bit to get started with our first production in March 2019.
We hope you will join us for another year of the best music theatre and cabaret available. All 2019 productions are now on sale, so don’t delay and book now – you wouldn’t want to miss out! See you at the theatre soon.

The season begins with the Sydney premiere of Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, brought to you by the team who created Calamity Jane in 2017, director Richard Carroll and choreographer Cameron Mitchell. Join King Arthur and his knights as they quest for the Holy Grail, meeting the Knights who say Ni, dangerous rabbits, arrogant Frenchmen and the incredible Lady of the Lake to guide them on their way.
The second musical for 2019 is the much-anticipated AMERICAN PSYCHO. We are excited to bring this production to the theatre, directed by Alexander Berlage, whose production of Cry-Baby was one of the hits of 2018. Based on the novel by Bret Easton-Ellis and set in the epicentre of excess, New York City, where Patrick Bateman fulfils his dark desires with terrible consequences.
We are thrilled to present the Australian premiere of a new musical set in and around the streets of Darlinghurst. Directed by Benita de Witt, RAZORHURST tells the story of crime queens Kate Leigh and Tilly Devine, examining their famous feud and the criminal empires they ruled over for more than 20 years.
LPD, producer of Cry-Baby, High Fidelity and Rent, returns to Hayes Theatre Co with the sensational CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Directed and choreographed by Cameron Mitchell, and based on the true story of Frank Abignale Jr., America’s most infamous teenage con-man.
Director Mitchell Butel and musical director Lucy Bermingham return to Hayes Theatre Co with CAROLINE, OR CHANGE starring Zahra Newman (The Book of Mormon). Set in Louisiana at the beginning of the civil rights movement, this musical by Tony Kushner (Angels in America) and Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Violet) examines what it means to just want to survive in a world turned upside down by change.
We finish the year with an exciting new production of the Gilbert & Sullivan classic, H.M.S. PINAFORE from maverick director Kate Gaul making her Hayes Theatre Co debut. Featuring a gender-bending cast this wildly imaginative production will be unlike any version of G&S you’ve seen before.
