Ghost the Musical is to feature in a number of charity fundraising efforts over the next month.  In addition to the show's close ties with Stand Up To Cancer, for which a charity single was produced earlier on this year, some of the cast are set to take part in a half marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cast members Louise Lawson, Laura Selwood, Rochelle Neil, Jenny Fitzpatrick, and Rebecca Giacopazzi will join Andrew Langtree (who plays Carl Bruner in the show) at the Run to the Beat event to be held in London later this month.  The cast are aiming to raise at least £1000 for this worthy cause and are well on the way to that figure with generous donations already from the shows writer, Bruce Joel Rubin and Matthew Warchus, the show’s director.

The half marathon, sponsored by Nike and now in its 4th year, takes place on the 25th September starting and finishing at London’s 02 Arena and the route takes in 16 different musical stages on the 13-mile course.  Even if you are not a runner, spectators can head to one of the live musical points along the route to support both the artists performing as well as the athletes taking part.

What could have been…

Before the cast pound the streets of London, UK-born and Australian-raised pop star Peter Andre will be taking to the stage at the Piccadilly Theatre for a special one-off performance of the show.  As part of Children in Need, a UK charity telethon hosted annually by BBC Television, Andre will step into the shoes of Sam Wheat to perform an exclusive new arrangement of "Unchained Melody" with leading lady Caissie Levy.  Their duet will not form part of the usual evenings performance but take place after the curtain call on the 14th September.

Peter has been a fan of Ghost the Musical since visiting the show early in its London residency and is quoted as saying: "its one of the best shows I have ever seen.  So when I was approached by Children in Need to get involved I jumped at the chance and just hope that I can do it justice.  The cast are great [and] it’ll be so much fun working with them and raising money for an amazing cause all at the same time."

POP Goes the Musical is to form part of the BBC’s annual telethon, which raises money for children’s charities, based in the United Kingdom and last year raised in excess of £40 million.  Other UK pop stars taking part in the evening are UK – X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon who is popping up in Wicked, ex-Spice Girl Melanie C who will be appearing in We Will Rock You and girl band the Sugababes who are visiting in Mamma Mia!

All performances are scheduled for next week and in all cases have totally sold out their respective theatres.  The performances will then be shown on the BBC telethon on the 18th November and subsequently on their on-demand service iPlayer.

All in all it’s going to be a very busy month for the cast of Ghost in what has already been an unbelievable year.  And next year looks even busier when Broadway beckons with the show opening up on the Great White Way with previews from March 2012 and an opening night scheduled for the 19th April at a yet-to-be-named theatre.  Casting also has not yet been confirmed.
