After a two-year hiatus, Opera Australia has announced the return of Mazda Opera in the Bowl, a FREE Melbourne event featuring an incredible selection of some of the most-loved opera music of all time, on Saturday 1 December 2012.
Sponsored by their Principal Partner Mazda Australia, which is committed to introducing opera to a wider audience, the evening concert celebrates the magic and memorable moments in opera.
Staged at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl – one of the country’s premier open-air venues – Mazda Opera in the Bowl features some of the greatest arias, most beautiful overtures and a delectable program of songs and duets that are sure to delight opera aficionados and novices alike.
The stage will light up with a veritable feast of Opera Australia’s favourite performers – including the shining star of Opera Australia’s Young Artists Program, soprano Nicole Car (pictured below in The Magic Flute); the much-loved baritone Warwick Fyfe; Helpmann Award winner mezzo-soprano Dominica Matthews; charismatic Italian baritone Giorgio Caoduro, who is currently performing in Lucia di Lammermoor; and up-and-coming young tenor Martin Buckingham.
From La bohème and Lakmé to Il Trovatore, Mazda Opera in the Bowl will feature the rousing “Largo al factotum” from The Barber of Seville and Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot. The soloists will be joined on stage by the Opera Australia Chorus and the world-renowned Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, which will also play the Overtures from Bizet’s Carmen and Rossini’s William Tell.
Lying back on the lush lawns of Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday 1 December, bring your favourite nibbles and a bottle of wine as you enjoy some of Australia’s most well-known opera singers performing under the summer stars.
