The call came in…The Guys went out… The rest is history.
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and created in the settling dust of the September 11 Trade Center attacks, the Melbourne premiere of Anne Nelson’s The Guys tells the true story of Nick, a New York Fire Captain who is randomly introduced to Joan, a journalist who helps him find the strength and words to write eulogies for the eight men he lost on the morning of September 11, 2001. Set over a life changing afternoon in Brooklyn 12 days after the event, The Guys is a powerful story of connection, strength, compassion and care, forged in a time of unprecedented chaos.
Featuring Atlantic Theater Co alum Adam T Perkins as Nick and the incredibly talented Roz Hammond (Muriel’s Wedding and The Dish) as Joan, this is a deeply personal project for Perkins, who was a volunteer first responder to the 9/11 attacks as a Search and Rescue ‘Tunnel Rat’ or ‘Mole’, crawling beneath the wreckage of Ground Zero.
Perkins produced the Australian premiere of The Guys in Perth in 2013. The production was nominated for the Performing Arts WA Award for Best Production, Best Actor and Best Actress, winning Best Actor. The team was then invited to open the first Subiaco independent theatre festival.
