**** stars

Comedian George Dimarelos begins the show with a very warm, funny and inviting introduction to the night’s proceedings. He uses audience interaction to get an idea of their favourite books and a springboard into witty anecdotes and jokes that are endearing. Aidan ‘Taco’ Jones is more sardonic which totally suits his story of taking a scene from Orwell’s 1984 and relating to a personal story, demonstrating how books reveal the depth and unspoken elements of human interaction.

The audience is suitably warmed up when Gillian English takes to the stage to relay some very witty personal experiences of reading inappropriate books as an eight-year- old. English has a fast, almost manic, delivery style which is thoroughly engaging and quirky.

Each comedian has a unique and charming delivery that thrilled the full house.

A Bookish Comedy Show is showing at Rooftop Terrace @ Universal Bar, 221 William Street, Northbridge until Sunday 16 February.
