Rehearsals are underway for the Australian tour of ‘Fame’ set to premiere in musical-loving Melbourne in April.
The talented, energetic cast, featuring no less than EIGHT contestants from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, gave a preview of the electric opening number ‘Hard Work’ at their rehearsal venue in North Melbourne this week.
Director/choreographer Kelley Abbey, assisted by Leanne Cherney, has whipped the cast into a frenzy with only a few short days of rehearsal.
The caliber of dancing talent on display makes the full show all more tantalizing, with Abbey’s choreography sure to be an absolute highlight.
Apart from the sensational company of dancers assembled, a stellar lead cast is set to bring the show to life.
Rock and roll legend Darlene Love is in Australia to play Miss Sherman, with Rebecca Jackson-Mendoza, Andrew McFarlane and Brian Wenzel also on the faculty of New York’s High School of the Performing Arts.
Students of the school include Chris Durling (Nick Piazza), Sam Ludeman (Joe Vegas), SYTYCD finalist Timomatic (Tyrone Jackson) and SYTYCD 2009 winner Talia Fowler (Iris Kelly).
Prolific producer John Frost believes the time is right for the new production, especially given the huge popularity of SYTYCD and Australian Idol.
Look out for a preview of ‘Fame’ when the cast performs to a huge national audience on this year’s Logie Awards.
Fame opens at the Regent Theatre, Melbourne on April 23 2010, before travelling to Brisbane in June.
