The Twziggy-Wiggy Cabaret – Songs from the Ghetto. @ Elsternwick | Victoria | Australia

THE TZIGGY WIGGY CABARET

Songs of the Ghetto

Produced by Jewish Holocaust Centre and The Kadimah

Written and Directed by Galit Klas with songs from the Ghettos.

***

Amongst the constant fear, threat of deportation, hunger and disease in the guarded walls of the Ghetto, cultural activities continued. Music, theatre and cabaret were popular, hundreds of new songs were composed proving the resilience and resistance of the performers and writers.

The Tziggy Wiggy Cabaret, operates in a Jewish Ghetto in 1941. The cast know any night could be their last performance, but they still deal with fear and hunger to present their best work to their fellow Jewish prisoners.

The cabaret includes 17 songs, all written and performed in various Ghettos during the holocaust.

Roles

Lieb/ Male/ 30-50

Lieb is the charismatic MC who holds the whole show together, by appeasing his Prima-donna cast members and stepping in when necessary. He has a limp and uses a crutch to walk.

 Strong acting skills required.

Yankele/Male/18-45

Yankele is a street singer who is a recent addition to the professional stage. He sings his own compositions that he writes about the various people and problems in the Ghetto. He does not care too much about authority, whether it be the MC or the police.

Strong singer and actor required. Juggling skills a plus.

Mrs. Hecht/ Female/30-55

Mrs. Hecht is from the opera houses of Europe, a Mezzo soprano, that is a stickler for professionalism.

Very strong singer and actor required

Rivke/Female/18-28

Rivke’s stage name is Hunny, she has performed with her sister, Bunny for most of their life. She likes to help other members of the cast when they are in trouble.

Strong singing (including harmonies), acting and some dancing required.

 Sarah/Female/18-28

Sarah’s stage name is Bunny, she is part of the Hunny & Bunny duo and has performed with her partner, and sister, since they were very young. She is politically involved.

Strong singing (including harmonies), acting and some dancing required.

*Hunny and Bunny can be a male duo, if so the names will be changed.

 Dancers / Female or Male/ 16-35/

Two dancers are required with skills in contemporary ballet, jazz and acro. We are looking for dancers who can dance with fiery energy at one moment, and tenderness in the next who will devise the dances with our choreographer. The dancers will work as a pair and will also have dialogue so acting skills are necessary.
