The Drowsy Chaperone @ 1870 Founders Theatre

The Drowsy Chaperone is a little-known but hilarious Broadway musical that BLOC will be presenting this November. It is described as a masterful “meta-musical” – theatre that comments on itself, and has won five Tony Awards. The show is based in the New York Apartment of the ‘Man in the Chair’ who is lonely and somewhat anxious. He is the central character, come narrator, of the show and in an attempt to cheer himself up he listens to an old record of his favourite musical…. ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ the musical comes to life in his apartment. Some of the highlights of the show are his anecdotes about the lives of original (fictional) actors heard on his record. Including mistaken identifies, a dream sequence, spit takes, a ditzy chorine, a Latin lothario, rollerskating, tap dancing and a Drowsy (Tipsy) upstaging Chaperone, this show has it all, and more. As ‘Man’ narrates we learn more about his complicated life also.

‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ will be held at the 1870 Founder’s Theatre, at the Federation University. It will be a 4 show season with shows on November 4th 8pm, Saturday 5th 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday 6th at 2pm.
