Drama With A Difference is one of Australia’s leading, independent drama schools. With a history that spans more than twenty years, it is the launching pad of many successful Australian actors, many of whom were first spotted in one of our live performances.
The school is very experienced in running courses that culminate in a season of performances in theatre festivals. For nine years, we have entered student performances in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. We enter these major festivals as an Adult Recreational Drama Class, and advertise the shows as such.
The format involves students taking weekly classes over a period of approximately nine weeks. Each participant is given a scene (or scenes) to work on, which centre around a given theme; that theme is then the title of the shows. Students are given expert tuition in various acting techniques, all of which are applied directly to the given scenes that are set for performance. Once the weekly classes are over, there are two full technical and dress rehearsals at our intimate theatre that seats 40 people. Then the shows begin, as advertised in The Melbourne International Comedy Festival!
In 2017, this course will run on a weekly basis, each Monday, from our venue in Clifton Hill on Monday nights from 7.30pm – 9.45pm. The course begins on Monday 6th February and enrolments are now open. This is always a popular course so early enrolment is advised.
This is a great course for aspiring actors who might want to use the shows to invite perspective agents along to see their work. The course is equally open to those who have no interest in pursuing the profession of acting, and who simply enjoy the idea of performing to a live audience. We integrate people with and without experience into this course.
