SYNOPSIS

Two performers play over a dozen roles (as well as the piano) in this witty and winking homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries that The New York Times calls “an ingenious miniature musical in the form of a snazzy vaudevillian double-act.” In this hilarious whodunnit, shots ring out at the surprise birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney. With the nearest detective an hour away, Officer Marcus Moscowicz jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills amidst an array of colourful suspects. LIST OF ROLES

MARCUS MOSCOWICZ (Male-identifying): An ambitious young officer hoping to make detective. He provides voices for two characters in flashback, THE CHIEF (Marcus’ grizzled boss) and VANESSA (Marcus’ former partner).

THE SUSPECTS (Male- or female-identifying): This versatile actor plays a variety of characters, including: DAHLIA WHITNEY (the victim’s loopy widow); MURRAY & BARB FLANDON (the Whitney’s bickering neighbors); STEPH WHITNEY (an overeager grad student); BARRETTE LEWIS (a self-incriminating ballerina); DR. GRIEF (a friendly local psychiatrist); TIMMY, YONKERS, & SKID (members of an antiquated boys’ choir); and HENRY VIVALDI (a late arrival).

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Both actors must be proficient at playing the piano. Anyone auditioning will be asked to self-accompany an excerpt from the show (sing and play piano), as well as prepare a comedic/character song of their choosing (for which an accompanist will be provided). We will provide sheet music and sides upon successfully scheduling an audition time. Antipodes Theatre Company encourages participation by all ages, genders, races and ethnicities.
